Laughlin sentencing postponed

Court-House-2

Sentencing for Calvin Wade Laughlin, found guilty of aggravated assault and manslaughter, has been postponed until Tuesday, June 30.

A jury found Laughlin guilty last week in relation to the death of Austin Neil McMaster. Laughlin represented himself at trial. Sentencing was scheduled for this morning, April 29.

Lawyer S. Low appeared for Laughlin in front of Justice McCarthy this Wednesday morning. Low told the court he was just retained in the afternoon on Tuesday, April 28. He applied to have the sentencing adjourned so he could review the “hockey bag” of material related to the case. From what he had learned of the case thus far, he felt that a presentence report would be in order.

Prosecutor Ron Pedersen told the court he was ready to proceed with sentencing, but he did not oppose the application for adjournment.

Sentencing is now scheduled for Tuesday, June 30 at 10 a.m. A presentence report was ordered.
