Drumheller couple thrilled with BCF wedding

It was a chance to make their wedding even more special and they could not resist.

Eric Hodgson and Amber Vogstad will be the first couple to host part of their wedding in the new Badlands Community Facility. The two tied the knot Saturday, June 23.

However, when they booked in August 2011, the building wasn’t ready, but there were a few things going for it that looked tempting. There were 180 people expected to come.

“It was one of a couple options we had for a wedding the size of what we were planning,” said Vogstad. “I really like the banquet room, because it’s nice neutral colours. I’d say the terrace is my favourite part so far.”

“It’s nice that it’s right in town, rather than being out of town,” said Hodgson. “We were a little worried about people driving.”

The couple waited and watched the progress of the building. As the months passed, so did completion dates. Construction was behind schedule, but the couple were confident they had made the right choice.

“I wasn’t worried. I wanted them to have lots of time to work through the bumps,” said Vogstad.

The two have known each other for years. Their families knew each other and the two travelled in the same social circles. Eventually their friendship led to more. They have been together for three years.

“We were friends before, and now we’re getting married,” said Vogstad. “We’re the first to get married in both our families. They were really excited when they saw the facility. The terrace is nice, it feels like the city and has an amazing view.”

The two are the first in a long list of weddings booked at the facility.

“We’ve got weddings all through the rest of the year,” said Heather Little, marketing and events officer at the facility.

The two are trilled to break in the facility for its first wedding.

“It’s great to have the wedding in a new building,” said Hodgson. “It’s pretty exciting.”

Vogstad added, “It’s something we will always remember.”
