St. Anthony’s runner competes at Provincials

    A Grade 11 runner at St. Anthony’s School has competed in provincial cross country running and posted a personal best.
    It has been a strong year for the Cross Country Running team at St. Anthony’s. The school had six athletes who competed at zones in Sundre on October 11.
    There were four Grade 7 runners and then in Grade 12 runner Chris Cooley placed 26th overall.
  Grade 11 student Donovan Snider also competed at zones. He placed eighth out of 67 runners. His time qualified him for the ASAA provincial championships in Edmonton on Saturday October 21.
    Snider posted a time of 21:12 in the 5k run and tied for 66th in the province at the intermediate level. The top finisher had a time of 17:18. There were 128 finishers.


DVSS competes at South Central Cross Country zones

    On Wednesday, October 11, the DVSS Cross Country Team travelled to Sundre to Compete in the South Central Zones.
    Despite the less than ideal weather,  all of the members of the team had good runs and some personal bests.
Kate Messom finished the highest of DVSS runners, finishing in 11th place out of 72 in the juvenile girls, with a time of 10:54.
    In the Bantam Boys, Ben Messom posted a time of 10:59, in the Midget Boys: Rowan McCluskey finished in 13:16 and Andrew Suntjens had a time of 13:18
 In the Intermediate Boys Raul Maldonado posted a time of 34:05 and in the Senior Boys category Gabe Gumasing posted a 31:25 time.

Seniors Shine at Alberta games

    The Alberta 55-plus Fall Games were held in High Prairie the weekend of Sept 14-16. A total of 43 individuals from Zone 2 made the trip to the North Country winning a total of 14 medals.
    From the Drumheller area, Barb Barker was successful - winning one gold and one silver medal in Knitting and Soft Dolls. Wendy and Lloyd Laughlin won the silver medal in the Double Crib Tournament.
    Gold medals were won in Women’s Darts, Silver medals in crafts, single and crib and bronze medals in Bocce, Crafts, Men’s Darts, Floor Curling and Military Whist.
    All participants had a most enjoyable weekend - including a barbecue, banquet, two wonderful bands, and great competition. High Prairie was a most welcoming host community.
    Zone competition for 8 ball was held on Thursday, September 21 and Cal Werner from Hanna competed in the provincial finals on September 29-30.
    Floor Shuffleboard, sponsored by Big Country Sports Society started on Sept 22.
