The Dragons were in action in Brooks last week participating in the AJHL showcase. They came home Sunday afternoon with a win and a loss.
On Thursday, September 30, the Dragons took on Grande Prairie for the first time this season. The Dragons came out on fire, and outshot the Storm 13-5, and went up 2-0 in the first period with goals from Carter Belitski and Sam Simard. They kept the pressure up in the second as Belitski scored his second and then Sam Lozinski connected on the powerplay. The Storm scored at the 5:13 mark of the third period, but that is all they could muster.
Will Christian scored on the empty net with 1:19 left for the Dragons as they cruised to a 5-1 win.
The Dragons weren’t back on the ice until Sunday, October 3, when they took on the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
After a scoreless first period, the Crusaders struck 45 seconds into the second period. The Dragons evened it up quickly with a goal by Cyle Clayton, and then Will Christian and Hayden Prosofsky put the Dragons up 3-1. By the end of the period, however, the Crusaders had tied it back up.
Grayson Dietrich put the dragons up 4-3 about five minutes into the third period, but the Crusaders tied it back up, sending the game to a shoot-out, where Sherwood Park earned the 5-4 win.
This Wednesday, October 6, the Dragons are in Calgary to take on the Canucks and on Friday are home to host the Okotoks Oilers.

Drumheller Peewee Terrapins remain undefeated

The Drumheller Peewee Terrapins are undefeated so far this season, after dealing a crushing blow to the Strathmore Badgers on Saturday, September 25.
The Terps were on the road Saturday and found themselves in a situation where they were dominating, leading 44-0. The game was called early.
“They had a short bench and had a couple of injuries, so they called the game at that point,” said coach Brad Iverson.
“We have dedicated kids, and we have better numbers, we are up to 30 now. We have a few really good athletes that can really run the ball.”
Along with the offence, Iverson says the defence is holding true as well.
“They have progressed a lot over the last few weeks, they had some solid tackles,” he said.
This win comes after their home field drubbing of Strathmore the previous week, 55-6, and gives them a 4-0 record.
“From what I gather a little bit, I think we should have a shot at going undefeated,” he said.
He is very happy with the team’s progress.
“From what I understand, three years ago, we had 11 players… and now we are up to 30, and some of our standouts, last season was their first year, and now they are in their second,” he said.
This coming weekend the Terrapins are in Red Deer to take on a strong squad.
Our next game versus the Red Deer Hornets should be our biggest test as they are also undefeated,” said Iverson.

Bantam Titans show growth in win over Strathmore

The Bantam Titans redeemed themselves after last weekend’s loss in a close game and defeated Strathmore on the road.
The Bantam Titans were in Strathmore on Saturday, September 25 to take on the Badgers. The team has had some challenges early but is coming together. This was evident in their 40-16 win.
“The Bantams have been a little bit of a work in progress because we had some low numbers, but over the last week or two we have had some more guys come out,” said Coach Brad Iverson. “Last week we were much closer, we lost 39-35 (to Strathmore) in a game we could have maybe won, we had a couple of turnovers late. This week we did really well.”
“With the new players that have joined the team, it has really helped everyone sort of begin to develop and start to come together.”
This showed with their more disciplined style on the field.
“We really eliminated some of our mistakes, we had fewer turnovers and the penalties were down a lot,” said Iverson, adding they had more offensive spark with some of the new additions to the team.
This season the Bantams are playing nine a side, and for a while, they only had about a dozen players. The ranks have since grown to 18, which reflects the product on the field, and also helps to have more effective practices.
The team played in the Central Alberta Football League, and the bantams have been split into two divisions. With only three teams in the south division, the Titans have completed their league schedule. They do not play this weekend but will play in an exhibition series with Hanna.
