Dragons topple top team

The Drumheller Dragons had a busy week and managed to pick up four points including a big win over the top team in the country.
The Dragons were on the ice for a grueling four games this week starting off on Tuesday, January 18 in Canmore.
Ty Daneault took the lead for the Dragons at the midway point of the first period.
The Eagles tied it up early, but Myle Hilman and Liuke Fennig each scored in the second, but Canmore added one more, going into the third with the Dragons up 3-2. Canmore finished the game with two goals in the third to take a 4-3 win.
The next night, Wednesday, January 19, the Dragons were in Blackfalds to take on the Bulldogs. The team traded goals in the first period, with the Dragons’ points coming from Ty Whitford and Grayson Dietrich. The first ended in a 2-2- tie. Fennig took the lead for the Dragons midway through the second period to go up 3-2. The Bulldogs added two in the third, and Vann Yuhas added one as the teams tied, and headed to overtime. The Bulldogs took the win just 1:18 into extra time.
The Dragons were finally back home on Friday, January 21 to take on the Brooks Bandits, who until that point have only dropped two games all season. The Bandits struck first, but Hayden Prosofsky tied it up after one. Ty Danaeult and Alexey Trischuk rattled off two goals early in the second, but the Bandits bounced back, with one. The Dragons led 3-2.
The Bandits tied up the game just 59 seconds into the third period, but defenseman Kiano Robinson and Kody Willick added two more goals. The Bandits scored with 11 and half minutes left, but the Dagons held on to a 5-4 win. Eric Ward staved off 37 shots in the win.
On Sunday, January 23, the Dragons hosted the Canmore Eagles for the second time in less than a week. Sam Simard put the Dragons up 1-0 after one period. The Eagles scored two in the second, taking the lead, but Carter Belitski scored with five minutes left in regulation on the powerplay to tie the game.
The Dragons outshot the Eagles 59-20, and after a scoreless extra period, the game went to a shootout where the Eagles took the win. Final score 3–2.
This Tuesday, January 25 the Dragons host the Bulldogs, but finish the week on the road taking on Blackfalds again on Saturday, January 28, and then the Camrose Kodiaks on Sunday, January 29.


Drumheller Dragons split home stand

The Drumheller Dragons split their two games last week, coming up short against the Whitecourt Wolverines and then defeating the Okotoks Oilers.
Almost 300 Drumhellerites skipped out of work or school on Wednesday, January 12, to take on the Whitecourt Wolverines. Myles Hilman took the lead for the Dragons 7:47 into the game, but that was as much scoring output as the Dragons would have despite outshooting the Wolverines 45-32. Whitecourt scored twice in the second period and added one more in the third to go on to a 3-1 win.
The Dragons regrouped on Saturday, January 15 as they hosted the Okotoks Oilers. Vann Yuhas scored with 38 seconds left in the first period to take the lead. The Dragons poured it on in the second period with three powerplay goals in a row from Hilman, Grayson Dietrich, and Ty Daneault respectively. The Oilers did not back down and scored three to end the period. There was no scoring in the third as the Dragons went one to win 4-3.
The Dragons have a busy week ahead, taking on the Canmore Eagles on the road on Tuesday, January 18, and then the Blackfalds Bulldogs on January 19.
They are home on Friday, January 21 to take on the Brooks Bandits and then on Sunday, January 23 host Canmore Eagles.

Tough start to 2022 for Dragons

The Dragons are back on the ice and shaking off some of the holiday rust, battling through some close games.
The Dragons opened 2022 on the road on Tuesday, January 4, versus the Olds Grizzlys. Olds got the jump on the Dragons going up by two goals early, but by the end of the first period goals from Tanner Willick and Myles Hilman, they were even at 2. Willick scored his second of the game early in the second period to put the Dragons up, but the Grizzlys answered back Luke Fennig connected on the power play at the midway point to take the lead 4-3, to put the Dragons up, but the Grizzlys tied it up forcing overtime.
With overtime expired the game went to a shoot out and Vann Yuhas and Ty Daneault connected on their shots for the win.
On Friday, January 7, the Dragons were back on home ice hosting the Grande Prairie Storm.
The Dragons outshot the Storm 44-22, and Myles Hilman put the Dragons up 2-1 after the first period with two powerplay goals. Grande Prairie stormed back in the second with two goals taking the lead.
The Dragons tied it up early in the third period with a goal from Alexey Trischuk, but the Storm scored the winners, and added an empty netter for good measure, winning 5-3.
On Saturday, December 8, the Dragons hosted the Bonnyville Pontiacs. Ty Whitford opened the scoring for the Dragons just 35 seconds in, but the Pontiacs were up 2-1 by the end of the first period. Yuhas scored on the powerplay early in the second period, but the Pontiacs answered back. Fennig tied it up at 3 going into the third period.

In the third, Hilman connected 35 seconds in, but with 1:07 remaining the Pontiacs tied it up, forcing overtime. Just 59 seconds into overtime, the Pontiacs took the 5-4 win.
The Dragons are home this week, taking on the Whitecourt Wolverines on Wednesday, January 12, and then the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday, January 15.
