Former Dragons forward picked for All-American team

braden-desmet.jpgFormer Drumheller Dragons player, Braden Desmet was named to the American Hockey Coaches Association’s RBK Division III Men’s All-American Hockey Team in March. The team is selected from about 320 representatives within 16 Universities.
Desmet and teammate, goalie Chad Beiswenger were both singled out for their accomplishments during their regular season with the Wisconsin Superior Yellowjackets. Braden, a junior forward from Strathmore, AB was named to the first team of the West squad along with five other players in the league. Desmet led the Yellowjackets this past season with 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points. Among his goals were five game-winners. Braden also received honours for the ALL-WIAC Men’s Hockey Team which chooses players from the five Wisconsin teams.

Murphy plays in CTGA Tournament in Drumheller

dsc_0003.jpg Rosebud resident, Gage Murphy (above), took part in the Canadian Junior Golf Tournament at the Dinosaur Trail Golf & Country Club on the weekend. This was number four on an eight tournament schedule according to Jamie Reimer, Alberta Tour Director. Mr. Murphy shot 79-89 and failed to make the countdown. Weather conditions tested players on Sunday, as temperatures at tee-off were in the 5˚ C range with intermittent rain showers.

Local rider competes in enduro mountain bike race

gary.jpg    After seven years out of the saddle, a local bike racer was back on track last weekend at Canada Olympic Park racing in the GVR8R enduro mountain bike race.
    Gary Chambers competed in the grueling mountain bike race in Calgary on May 31. This was the second running of the GVR8R race promoted by Deadgoat Racing and part of the Western Canada MTB Enduro Racing Series. He placed 15th in a heavy field of 135 racers.
