Organizers of the Chris Bolin Memorial Red Eye Slo-Pitch Tournament are getting ready to host the second annual event come the weekend of September 10-12.
    This follows on the heels of the inaugural event that raised funds in the name of Chris Bolin who died tragically in a car accident in 2005 and for the Morgan Jayne Project. Last year the event raised almost $6,000 that went to the Morgan Jayne Project, the Chris Bolin Scholarship fund and the Drumheller Fire Department.
    One of the organizers, Duane Bolin, says it appears they have filled all 20 spots for the teams that will be on the field continuously day and night from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. The tournament will be played out at the HooDoo Rv Resort and the Rosedale diamonds during the day. Nighttime games will be fully illuminated. Each team will be guaranteed four games.
    Volunteers from the Morgan Jayne Project will once again be operating the concession and beer gardens at the event. The Morgan Jayne Project helps to curb the Spread of HIV and AIDS in Roatan by providing infant formula to the babies of HIV infected mothers to stop the chain of transmission. The organization was founded in the name of Fred Makowecki’s daughter who passed away in 2006.
    Last year funds raised in the name of Chris Bolin were directed partially to the Chris Bolin Scholarship fund and to the Drumheller Fire Department. Duane explains the Fire Department used the funds to purchase stabilizer jacks to allow the department to perform auto extrication more safely.
    He says the fire department is planning an extrication demonstration on Saturday night to demonstrate the stabilizer jacks and show attendees what their generosity supports.
