The Mastel Transport Midget Raptors are on the home stretch of their season and hosted six team tournament.
The Raptors invited Bow Island, Lomond, Fort Saskatchewan Strathmore and a Calgary team.
“Our luck didn’t go our way, out of six teams we ended up in the C-final versus Fort Saskatchewan, and won it,” said coach Doug Hodge.
League rivals Lomond and Bow Island ended up in the Championship game.
“Bow Island won. That was a good game because they haven’t beat Lomond all year,” said Hodge.
Coach Hodge said the team played well, but in their games, they found themselves playing from behind.
“We would spot them four points within 10 minutes of the game and then we had to fight back,” he said. “We played hard and everything, but the other teams just played good too.”
In league play, the Raptors have a 6-5 record, most recently topping Kneehill 5-3. They have just three games left before playoffs.
In provincial playdowns, the Raptors faced Duchess in the first round but were beat out.

The DVSS girl’s senior basketball team beat Trochu 51 - 47 during their hometown game on Wednesday, February 1.
Assistant coach Andy Neuman said, “Trochu is one of their league rivals and this was an important game for both teams. It shaped up to be a good one.”
Coach Jennifer Raugust said, “The girls had a lot of good moments but we had an absence and one feeling quite ill and those things can really throw a team off. However, the few girls who don’t play a lot did great! So there was growth and some struggle but all in all it was a win so I’ll take it and we will build up from here.”
The Dynos finished the first third of the season with a 2-2 win in league and 1-5 in tournaments. With the second third only just beginning, both coaches feel the team is only getting stronger.
“The ladies are off to St. Joseph’s Collegiate in Brooks for a tournament on February 3 and 4. Their first game is against Calgary Christian School, a strong 2A team from Calgary. They have two more games to wrap up the weekend.” Neuman said.
