Dragons return to home ice Saturday

This Friday, the Dragons will be back on the ice as the regular season gets back on track.
On March 1, the AJHL announced that regular-season play would resume under new protocols. The teams will be playing in a cohort group. For the Dragons, this means they will be facing off against the Olds Grizzlys and the Camrose Kodiaks.
On Friday, March 12, the Dragons will be in Camrose to take on the Kodiaks, and then on Saturday, March 13, will be back in the Dragons Den to take on the Olds Grizzlys.
The AJHL has completed the first round of testing in its return to play plan with no positive COVID-19 results across 13 teams and 367 players and staff. Private PCR testing was provided by DynaLife to all members of the team cohorts after a 7-day isolation period.
Spectators are not currently permitted at AJHL games due to provincial restrictions; however, all games will be broadcast on HockeyTV.

Fans can show their support for the team by purchasing a cardboard cutout which will be displayed at the arena for games. You can even take them home after the season concludes.
So far, games have been scheduled for the Dragons until the first week of April.

Date selected for Triple Crown motocross series event

The groundwork is being put in place for the Drumheller Off-Road Vehicle Association (DORVA) to host an event in the 2021 Triple Crown Series.
Last season the association had been granted an event in the series, however, because of COVID-19, it was cancelled. Brad Peake of DORVA said they are hoping to bring the event back and have been added to the series schedule.
“We do know if we don’t start making plans and have a schedule, we will be able to see what will stick,” he said. “Last season Eastern Canada held a series, and it was run successfully with the help of the health authorities and COVID-19 safety protocols.”
A tentative schedule has been established, and Drumheller is scheduled for rounds one and two on June 19 and 20.
“We are just about starting to make some plans with the health authority on how and what we are planning. Professional sports is occurring in the province already, even some in indoor venues. All we are proposing is an individualized sport in an outdoor venue with no spectators.”
What they would lose with no spectators will be made up with potential television coverage.
“The TV coverage is going to be massive this year with FloSports (live streaming sports service) and Fox Sports. So even if you can’t buy a ticket to go see it, you can buy a ticket and watch it,” said Peake.
He says they are not sure what they have in store, but now that a date has been proposed, DORVA can begin talking to the Town and Health Authority to see what is possible.

Dragons sign forward for 2021-2022 season

The Dragons are tapping into the power of a Hurricane for some offense in the coming season, with its most recent signing.
The Dragons announced on February 4 they have signed Van Yuhas for the 2021-2022 season. Originally from Medicine Hat, the 16-year-old forward brings with him scoring potential.
Yuhas played for the AAA U16 Lethbridge Hurricanes in 2019-2020, where he had 29 goals and 25 assists in 35 games. This season he played with the Southern Alberta Hockey Academy (SAHA) U18 Prep Team, where he had seven assists in six games.
“Vann’s determination on and off the ice makes him an exceptional student-athlete. We are very proud to see Vann’s hard work with the academy paying off,” noted a statement from the SAHA.
