The Senior Titans dominated the Canmore Wolverines in the semi-final of the Big Sky Conference playoffs, as Drumheller marches through the postseason.
The Titans hosted the Wolverines on October 29, under Friday night lights. The Dragons were up 15-0 by the half and ran away with it winning 36-0.
“Our defence has been on fire, we’ve had three shutouts in a row. We love that on the d-side,” said coach Ken Fournier.
While it was a blowout on the scoreboard, watching the game, Canmore was putting up a valiant effort.
“Their (Canmore) offence is a work in progress, they have a new offensive coordinator, and they are getting better,” said Fournier. “It seems like they are focused on improving no matter the outcome, and they are.”
“Somebody might look at the score and say it was a blowout, but these aren’t easy games by any means. We have to play from the first whistle to the very last whistle.”
He says this game allowed the Titans to prepare for the postseason which includes a trip to provincials in the near future. Currently, the Titans are sporting a 7-3 record and are ranked second among Tier IV teams.
The team is playing well, but Fournier hopes they can get a little healthier as they move towards provincials.
“We are banged up, and the guys who have been filling in various spots and rotating through positions, have been doing well answering the call. Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, we can get healthy to help prepare for provincials, obviously, that is in our sights. Hopefully, we can keep refining stuff,” said Fournier.
He adds they have to be on the top of their game.
“We know those teams are ready, they love to prepare for provincials,” he said. “They are not afraid to come up here and lay in our barn, and they are more than happy to host us.”

The Bantam Titans are one step closer to a championship and a shot at provincials.
The Titans hosted the Ponoka Broncs on Saturday, October 30. It was a run and gun game with the Titans coming out on top 58-44.
“It was certainly an exciting game. I didn’t really know what to expect. I know our offense really came together and were able to put some points on the board, it was a bit of a shoot-out,” said coach Brad Iverson.
The Titans were down by two touchdowns early, but as the second quarter drew to a close, they rallied and brought the score to 32-30 for the Broncs. They carried the momentum into the second half and pulled out the win.
“Our defence has been a bit of a work in progress, but we had a stronger second half. So we are going to build on that and take it into the finals,” said Iverson.
He was encouraged by how the team was able to regroup and come back.
“We have really been a second-half team in the last four games,” said Iverson.
This weekend the Titans will be playing in the Central Alberta Football League 9-man final; game time and the opponent has yet to be determined. If they are successful, they have a shot at extending their post-season to the next level.
“A win next weekend, and we are off to the tier two provincials.”

The Dragons were on an extended road trip over the weekend facing three teams in three days.
On Friday night, October 29 they were in Drayton Valley to take on the Thunder. The two teams met on the previous weekend in Drumheller where the Dragons were victorious.
After a scoreless first period, the Thunder went up by two goals in the second. Luke Fennig drew them closer, scoring with five and half minutes left in the period. At the eight-minute mark of the third period, Grayson Dietrich tied the game on the powerplay. The game went to a shoot-out, where the Thunder connected on three of their shots, to the Dragons two, securing the win.
On Saturday night, October 30, the Dragons were in Grande Prairie. The Storm scored in the first period, but Fennig tied it up at the midway point of the second. The Storm added one more to lead 2-1 after two periods. The Storm went up 3-1 early in the third, but Zach Burns added a goal to make it 3-2. It wasn’t enough as the Storm added one more for a 4-2 win.
The Dragons concluded the weekend with a matinee against the Whitecourt Wolverines on October 31. After a scoreless first period, the Wolverines got the jump scored three times before Dietrich found the net for the Dragons on the powerplay. It was as close as they would get as the Wolverines added an empty-netter with three minutes left to go on to win 4-1.
The Dragons will be home this coming weekend to take on the Brooks Bandits on Friday, November 5, and then the Calgary Canucks on Saturday, November 6.
