Drumstix bring women’s tournament to Drumheller

The Drumheller Drumstix returned Alberta women’s rec hockey back to the Memorial Arena this past weekend. Sadly, the Drumstix were defeated in the final, but a great time was had by all.

Four teams made the trip to Drumheller, the Beiseker Bullets, Calgary Blue Hares, Cremona Survivors, and the Dixon Dambusters. The Drumstix divided themselves into two teams to make a total of six.

High expectations for Dynos

It is a road the DVSS Dynos have travelled before, but every time they do it is completely different.

The senior boys basketball team is in Cold Lake this weekend to play in the 2A provincial championships. They earned a number two seed in the tournament and play today, (Friday) at 12:30 p.m. They will face either Immanuel Christian of Lethbridge or the home team Assumption.

Curling Club introducing sport to new players

The Drumheller Curling Club was alive with activity this past Friday as locals of all ages came out to try their best to draw to the button.
“The turn out was better than expected and a lot of fun was had by all” says Drumheller Curling Club member, Kelly Eddy. “This temporary Friday Night Fun League is a way to introduce new people to the sport of curling.”
In total, the club hosted 32 curlers for this event, many of whom had never set foot on a curling surface before. Curling Club members were present to coach and play with participants, allowing for a great first time curling experience.
The Drumheller Curling Club currently hosts 3 leagues, Men’s, Mixed and Seniors. The Ladies League was lost a few years ago due to lack of interest. The Drumheller Curling Club hopes by hosting these fun nights they will increase interest in a sport which can be played well into people’s golden years and result in a few new curlers next season.
The Curling Club will host one more Friday Night Fun League this Friday, March 16 at 6:45 p.m. Participants can sign up individually or as a team. The only thing participants need to bring is their own clean gym shoes. There are sliders and brooms available for use at the rink.
