Titans dominate Spartans in league play

The Drumheller Senior Titans keep battling their way through league play and dominated the Olds Spartans under Friday night lights.
The Titans hosted Olds on Friday night, October 1 and walked off the victor 48-6, in their first match-up.
“We have been able to see all the teams in the league and so far we have a good match up with Strathmore next week,” said Coach Ken Fournier.
Coach Corey Myles said the team’s defence kept them in the game, holding the Spartans to just six points.
“The defence has been awesome all along, bailing us out of games, but they were exceptional today, giving us the ball back every time we needed it,” said Fournier.
On offence, the team showed versatility.
“On offence, we were able to put 48 points on the board, and we put a lot in the air instead of going to our double-wing as we often do,” said Myles.
Coach Fournier said the game allowed the coaching staff to shuffle in players to get valuable in-game experience.
Fournier said receivers Austin Parliament and Nick Zuccatto were standouts, and quarterback Luke Myles had a good game. On defense, Hunter Dayton shined.
The Titans are beyond the midday point in league play and are facing Strathmore this coming weekend.
“We continue to go game by game, but of course, our eyes are on the playoffs and making it to the provincials.” said Myles.

Drumheller Minor Hockey set for season

Drumheller Minor Hockey is back on the ice for the season.
Drumheller Minor Hockey president Keith Poole tells the Mail, evaluations are complete, teams are set up and they are playing exhibition games.
He says even with the fourth wave of COVID registration this season was strong.
“This year we have two U11 teams, and this is the first year we have had two U13 teams for quite some time, so we have seen an increase,” said Poole, adding they have two teams for the remaining younger squads, and are close to capacity for the remaining teams.
With COVID-19, Drumheller Minor Hockey has to adhere to the current protocols with the restriction exemption program. Anyone 12 and over are required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative privately paid for COVID test to enter the arena. Masking is still required.
For participants 12-17 years of age, who are not vaccinated but participating in organized sport or recreation, they do not need to provide proof of vaccination, but cannot join as a spectator inside the facility before their ice time.

Dragons shine at AJHL showcase

The Dragons were in action in Brooks last week participating in the AJHL showcase. They came home Sunday afternoon with a win and a loss.
On Thursday, September 30, the Dragons took on Grande Prairie for the first time this season. The Dragons came out on fire, and outshot the Storm 13-5, and went up 2-0 in the first period with goals from Carter Belitski and Sam Simard. They kept the pressure up in the second as Belitski scored his second and then Sam Lozinski connected on the powerplay. The Storm scored at the 5:13 mark of the third period, but that is all they could muster.
Will Christian scored on the empty net with 1:19 left for the Dragons as they cruised to a 5-1 win.
The Dragons weren’t back on the ice until Sunday, October 3, when they took on the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
After a scoreless first period, the Crusaders struck 45 seconds into the second period. The Dragons evened it up quickly with a goal by Cyle Clayton, and then Will Christian and Hayden Prosofsky put the Dragons up 3-1. By the end of the period, however, the Crusaders had tied it back up.
Grayson Dietrich put the dragons up 4-3 about five minutes into the third period, but the Crusaders tied it back up, sending the game to a shoot-out, where Sherwood Park earned the 5-4 win.
This Wednesday, October 6, the Dragons are in Calgary to take on the Canucks and on Friday are home to host the Okotoks Oilers.
