Tarp auction strong in face of slowed economy

tarp-auction-2009.jpgThe Drumheller Stampede and Ag Society are impressed with the results of the annual tarp auction, taking in $108,250. WPCA Dodge Pro Tour chuckwagon drivers Colt Cosgrave, Tim Haroldson and Darcy Flad joined in the bidding action at the Stampede Barn Tuesday night, April 7, as bidders from across the province opened their wallets at the satellite auction. “As far as I am concerned, it was a success,” said Ag Society vice president Larry Duxbury. “We didn’t go down a whole lot, even with the economy. We also picked up additional local sponsors.”

Local hockey players on Western Canada championship squad

bantams.jpgFour local hockey players can now brag they were on the best bantam hockey squad in Western Canada. Jared Potter, Shayne Gwinner, and Josh Kluck of Drumheller and Dru Hickle of Hanna all play for the Airdrie Xtreme AAA Bantam hockey team. The Xtreme went 5-0 over the weekend beating out the top teams from Western Canadian provinces, becoming the Western Canada Champions. “The team really came together this year, we had lots of big names and we just worked our way up,” said Josh Kluck.

Drumheller Warrior takes bantam championship

sean-davies.jpgA Drumheller teenager came home a champion last week, helping bring his hockey team the bantam ‘AA’ league banner. Sean Davies, 13 a student of St. Anthony’s, finished the season on top as captain of the Wheatland Warriors when they won their final playoff series against Cranbrook on Thursday, March 26. The Warriors finished the series early with two wins on Wednesday and Thursday, 3-1 total in the series, and crowned the South Central Alberta Hockey League Championship, receiving champ rings.
