Dwayne Allen
March 5, 1968 - April 3, 2022
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Dwayne Jans. Dwayne passed away peacefully on April 3, 2022 in Heritage House Care Centre in Stettler after a recent illness at the age of 54 years. He is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Karen and her children Glen Thornton of Red Deer, AB., Daniel Thornton of Drumheller, AB., and Lilly Thornton of Edmonton, AB., his mother Irene Jans of Medicine Hat, AB., brothers Leslie of Medicine Hat, AB., and Darwin (Maxine) of Manyberries, AB. nephews Wade (Melanie) of Richmond, B.C., Trevor (Nikki) of Richmond, B.C., Monty (Gail) and their son Jayden of Manyberries, AB, niece Charlene (Marco) of Lethbridge, AB, and many members of extended family, friends, and his church family at Grace Lutheran Church in Drumheller.
Dwayne was predeceased by his father Richard and brother Randy.
Dwayne was born in Medicine Hat and grew up on a farm south of Irvine, AB. He went to school in Irvine and Medicine Hat High School. After graduating high school, he moved to Three Hills, AB where he worked several jobs, including the many years he worked at Macleods True Value Hardware and the Town of Three Hills in the Public Works and Parks and Recreation Departments. Dwayne was well-liked, easy-going, happy and known for his kindness and great sense of humour.
Dwayne moved to Drumheller, AB where he and Karen married on April 13, 2013.
Dwayne loved to do woodwork projects, go bowling, cook, read, bake bread, go camping, hang out with his buddies on Thirst-Day, watch his favourite sports teams: Toronto Blue Jays, Calgary Flames, Calgary Stampeders, play Farm Simulator on his XBOX, and loved his Harley and the bike trips he took with his close friends.
Dwayne enjoyed the trips he took with Karen and with the kids, including Disneyland, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Prince George, Seattle, Victoria, Tofino, and the numerous family vacation trips to Nakusp and Vernon, B.C. There were many camping trips to Waterton, Banff, Jasper, and to his old stomping grounds Elkwater, AB. Due to
a medical condition, Dwayne had to miss out on the things he loved the most these past several years: riding his motorcycle, going to the Hot Springs, camping, and having coffee on the deck at home.
Heartfelt thanks to the angels that masquerade as health care aides, nurses, and recreation therapists at Heritage House at Stettler Health Care Centre. Dwayne chose to reside there these past few years, and you all went above and beyond in the care you gave him. Thanks to the Drumheller Home Care Staff who helped Dwayne remain at home for as long as possible, staff at Drumheller Acute Care and Coalbanks, Drumheller EMS, Dr. M. Yeung, Dr. R. Ram, and Dr. H. Lockhat, for the outstanding care and compassion you gave all the years Dwayne was under your care.
A celebration of Dwayne’s life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Drumheller, 620 2 Avenue West on April 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Interment at a later date at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery in Medicine Hat.
