JAMES
Lauretta Florence

July 1, 1937 - March 25, 2023

Lauretta (Lettie) Florence James was born in Drumheller Alberta on July 1st, 1937. Her father Arthur Parge was born in North Dakota and her mother, Mary Rowbottom (Parge) in Nova Scotia. Lettie worked in Drumheller and that’s where she met George James when she was 16 years old and he was 19. They married on October 24, 1959. George and Lettie were married for 63 years, together for 70 years.
Lettie was a true, proud Canadian girl… born on Canada Day! She was so proud of that and loved her country.
Lettie worked for Canadian Utilities in the early years in Drumheller, later, after moving to Calgary she worked in child care. Eventually, Lettie had a career in retail for 29 years working for Calgary Co-op in the meat department supporting 2 stores and retired from the original store in downtown Calgary. Lettie was respected and admired professionally because she worked so hard. She also was an avid member and supporter of her community of Tuxedo Park where she lived for over 50 years.
Lettie was a loving, caring grandmother who in her retirement looked after her granddaughters when their mother returned to the workforce.
People always expressed to Lettie how lucky her daughter was that she had her mother, but Lettie always replied that she was the lucky one that she got to be part of her grandchildren’s lives. Eventually, Lettie was blessed with 4 more grandchildren and she was a huge influence in all of their lives.
We will forever miss our beautiful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and Auntie Lettie.
She is survived by her husband George James; her daughter Tami White and her 2 sons Todd James (Laura) and Scott James (Angie); her sister Gloria Bruins (John); her grandchildren: Rebecca, Julia, and Jaclyn White, Sydney, Connor, and Tristan James and Nolan James; including extended family members in addition to Kelly Lee and Bradley Miller of Michigan, USA. Lettie is predeceased by her mother Mary Parge, her father Arthur Parge, and her sister Pauline Miller (Mervin).
A Memorial Service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home (Prairie View Chapel, 1605 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a Graveside Service at Mountain View Cemetery.

Phyllis Louise

March 28, 2023

Phyllis Louise Stewart, age 87, passed away peacefully at sunset on March 28th, surrounded by family in the Bassano Health Centre. She was wife to her late husband Merlin Stewart, who passed away in March 1997. They shared 44 years of marriage together and raised three children in Hussar and the surrounding area. Along with raising her family, Phyllis and Merlin worked for many farms, whereas a young woman, she had the responsibility of cooking and serving meals to the working crews. After settling in Hussar, she bought her school bus and began a 35 year long career, forging life-long relationships with her bus kids and their families. Family, friends, and community were important to Phyllis, and she was known as a kind and giving soul. In her later years, she loved gardening, caring for her yard, and spending time outdoors. She was active at the Sundowners Centre playing cards, having coffee with friends, organizing the foot nurse and most importantly playing crib. Friends and family members were often happy recipients of her crocheted dishcloths and afghans. While it was difficult for her to leave her home and the community of Hussar, she embraced her new life in the town of Bassano at the Playfair Lodge. There she cultivated many new friendships with the residents as well as the staff. She busied herself participating in the many events, and of course her love of crib continued. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, Stewart and Louise Williams, husband Merlin, daughter-in-law Patti Stewart, daughter Mary Campbell, great-grandson Mason Dixon, and a brother-in-law Willie Sanders. She will be missed and remembered fondly by so many.
