Condolences to the family of Robert Mitchell Herzog

Robert Mitchell

October 28, 1961 - November 19, 2023

Mitch, a dedicated farmer and member of the Delia community, was surrounded by his family when he passed away peacefully in Airdrie at the age of 62 on November 19, 2023.
Mitch was born to Bob and Gloria Herzog. Mitch grew up on the family farm just north of Delia with his three sisters, Janet, Susan, and Jennifer. A skilled amateur motocross racer growing up, Mitch had a passion for anything with an engine and wheels. From dirt bikes to snowmobiles, and muscle cars, Mitch always sought thrill and excitement.
Spending his life working on the family farm under his dad’s guidance, Mitch eventually took over the operation in the late 90’s to continue the Herzog family legacy. Between tending to cattle and crops, Mitch loved spending time with his family and friends. Mitch was a kind and loving father and husband who took pride in being an excellent friend and neighbour. Whether helping a fellow farmer move their cattle to a new pasture or hopping behind the wheel of a combine to get their crop off before the first snow, Mitch could always be counted on in a time of need and wasn’t one to keep score.
After gracefully transitioning into semi-retirement, Mitch settled with his loving wife Karen into their cottage at Ghost Lake in 2017. A cheerful touch to this peaceful life was their loyal furry friend, Abby, whose playful presence and need for adventure added joy to Mitch’s daily life.
Mitch will be deeply missed by his loving wife Karen; his children Grant (Maria), Jeffrey (Jordan), Kaylin (Braeden), and Ashlyn (Quinten), his stepchildren Melissa (Andrew), Rob (Mackenzie), his grandchildren Palmer, Reese, Millie and step-grandson Henry, his sisters Janet, Susan (Ralph), and Jennifer (Tom). Also remembering Mitch are numerous extended family members and a lifetime of friends. We will miss Mitch’s contagious laugh, his witty jokes, his love of life, putting everyone first and total selflessness.
Mitch was predeceased by his parents Robert (Bob) and Gloria Herzog, nephew Jordan Larkam, and numerous other family members.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful and dedicated staff at Bethany Airdrie for their compassionate and respectful care of Mitch, companions from Home Instead, A Friend Indeed, Dr. Cook and his colleagues. Mitch had a rare condition called P.C.A. (Posterior Cortical Atrophy) Alzheimers which he battled with courage and dignity.
A Celebration of Life service for Mitch will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the Delia Community Hall. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to D.O.R.V.A. (Drumheller Off-Road Vehicle Association) a not-for-profit organization, Airdrie Bethany (Recreation Aspen Unit) or the charity of one’s choice.
