Drumheller’s Little Church has travelled to an undisclosed location in anticipation of receiving repairs.
Town crews moved the church the morning of Friday, February 13, and the church will be stored until its trip up to the Drumheller Institution, where a work crew will assess the damage, make the necessary repairs, and get the church in tip-top shape in time for the tourist season this year.
Heather Bitz, Executive Director of the Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce, said the repairs are necessary because of the vandalism at the little church in October of 2014.
The bible was set on fire, there is floor damage as a result of crews checking the fire was completely out.
Drumheller’s Chamber of Commerce is the custodian of the littlest church and the small piece of land it is on along North Dinosaur Trail.
The little church was originally built in 1968 as a project by Drumheller resident Tygve Seland and the Ministerial Association.
Seland is credited with building or co-building the majority of the older dinosaur statutes that can be found around town.
The church was overhauled by inmates at the Drumheller Institution in 1991.
