Hockey fans have been able to get their fix on the offseason, thanks to the World Junior Showcase, and if fans took a closer look last week they would have seen Drumheller referee Tyler Jensen on the ice.

The World Junior Showcase is an exhibition tournament where Team Canada has invited Russia and the Czech Republic for a four game series.  It is during The National Team Summer Showcase, where men’s and women’s junior national teams will be evaluating talent on the ice.

Jensen acted as a linesman for a Russia versus the Czech Republic game on Sunday night, and then the Monday night’s game where Canada took on Russia. This was televised.  For Jensen, this might have been his highest profile assignment so far.

“It was good, pretty exciting assignment,” he tells the Mail.Last season Jensen officiated in the WHL as a linesman as well refereeing in the AJHL. He feels lucky to get the assignment.

“It was up to Hockey Canada, and they wanted to use local Calgary guys, and I was selected and got to work two games,” he said.

He was impressed with the quality of the game.

“Speed and the game flow. I mean they are the best of the best for the juniors,” he said.
