Hussar annexes former school grounds

Hussar 2021

The boundaries of the Village of Hussar will grow slightly in 2023 as it annexes a 7.8 acre parcel of land at the northwestern edge of the village, the former site of the Hussar School, from Wheatland County.
When the Hussar School permanently closed in June 2016 the land was offered only to Wheatland County, though the village submitted an expression of interest and began the annexation process; the final stage of this process was to hold a public hearing, which the village council held on Thursday, June 30.
“There were no comments or concerns from the public (about the annexation),” Hussar Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Kate Brandt told the Mail.
Following the public hearing, information was sent to Wheatland County council for discussion during the regular Tuesday, July 5 council meeting.
Hussar council requested an effective date of annexation to be January 1, 2023.

DSC 0207

Charges have been laid following a four month investigation by the RCMP’s Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SADCRU).
SADCRU began a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation in March 2022 into a suspected drug dealer from Linden who was believed to be trafficking drugs into Three Hills and Drumheller.
On Monday, July 4, with assistance from Strathmore RCMP, Mandy Lynne Russell, 40, was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, and possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine.
SADCRU seized 24 grams of suspected fentanyl and 21.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine during the investigation.
Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Russell was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Drumheller on Friday, July 15.
At the time of her arrest, Russell was already facing charges for similar offences out of Drumheller and on a court ordered Release Order with conditions.
As this matter is now before the Court, no updates are anticipated.
