Stettler woman receives 44 day sentence following firearms complaint

Courthouse

A Stettler woman was sentenced to a total of 44 days in custody after entering guilty pleas to charges of possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, and breaching probation in Alberta Court of Justice in Drumheller on Friday, November 10.
Crystal Primrose, 30, will also serve a two year probation term following the incarceration and will be under a 10 year weapon ban.
The court heard on September 15 of this year at approximately 8:45 a.m. Drumheller RCMP responded to a call regarding the discharge of a firearm from a vehicle travelling north on Highway 56.
The suspect vehicle, in which Ms. Primrose was a passenger, swerved into the southbound lane in an attempt to hit the victim’s vehicle; the victim then began following the suspect vehicle until it was alleged Ms. Primrose opened the window of the vehicle and pointed a rifle at the victims.
Three shots were fired while the vehicles continued driving along Highway 56, at which point the victims began following at a distance until the vehicle stopped at a residence in the hamlet of Rumsey about 50 kilometres northwest of Drumheller.
Drumheller RCMP arrested both Ms. Primrose and a co-accused, James Hussey, without incident at the residence.
At the time of her arrest, Ms. Primrose was under a 12 month suspended sentence from March 2023, of which she was in breach.
Defense noted, at the time of the incident Ms. Primrose had been asleep in the passenger seat of the vehicle after a night out, and when she woke up noticed the vehicle was being tailgated. She made the decision to fire some warning shots at the vehicle with her “gopher gun,” though there was no intent to hit the individuals or the vehicle.
Crown and defense entered a joint submission of a 44 day sentence followed by a two year probation. Given pre-trial custody of 29 days at an enhanced rate, Ms. Primrose was released and ordered to have no contact with two named individuals, and forfeit the firearm used in the incident. She will also be subject to a mandatory 10 year firearm ban.
It was noted Ms. Primrose does not know the victims, though they are known by her co-accused.
Remaining charges against Ms. Primrose were withdrawn.

The Village of Big Valley is trending on social media platforms after a video, which was originally posted on TikTok, went viral over the weekend and has prompted investigation by Stettler RCMP into alleged animal abuse.
The video, which was originally posted on Friday, November 10, has amassed 1.9 million views and over 14,500 comments, and has also prompted multiple reports to RCMP, with one concerned caller coming from as far away as Florida.
“RCMP are aware and have received multiple reports following the TikTok video,” shares RCMP public information officer Corporal Troy Savinkoff.
In the video a woman can be seen confronting a man while a cat meows in the background before the camera pans to show a wet, black cat in a live trap cage.
The cameraman alleges in the video the man being confronted previously killed the cameraman’s cats.
Many of the comments on the video have given the name of the man being confronted, and Cpl. Savinkoff acknowledges these types of cases often “bring forth strong emotions” from both the public and RCMP. However, he cautions people to “let the criminal process take place.”
“It’s important to know we have one investigation on the go,” Cpl. Savinkoff says.
A follow up video posted by the cameraman shows the cat in good health, dried off and enjoying some pets in a garage; according to the post, the cat has been dubbed Dog.
Stettler RCMP are taking the helm of the investigation as the village falls within their jurisdiction.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid at this time.

Canadian country-music artist Aaron Pritchett announced his cross-Canada Liquored Up tour with special guests Matt Lang and Cory Marks, and will be making the Badlands Community Facility (BCF) one of the stops.
Pritchett has opened sold out shows for country music legend Garth Brooks, and played at the Calgary Stampede and the Rockin’ River Musicfest in Merritt, B.C.
“Basically what happened is they were looking for venues, and when I saw it was Aaron Pritchett I thought that would be an interesting (event) to do,” Recreation, Arts, and Culture manager Rick Ladouceur tells the Mail.
Bringing more, and different types of events to the Drumheller Valley, and utilizing some of the Town’s recreation facilities to host these events was one of the goals Mr. Ladouceur previously outlined as something he would like to bring to the table in his role.
He says there are more events in the works, including a murder mystery style dinner in April 2024, and other events he currently cannot disclose.
“I’m very excited to bring events to Drumheller, especially in the off-season,” Mr. Ladouceur shares.
The concert will be held in the fieldhouse of the BCF, and there is a venue capacity of about 800 to 900 people; the concert will be standing-room only to help promote the “party atmosphere” and Mr. Ladouceur says he is hopeful to see support from Drumheller and surrounding communities.
A limited number of VIP tickets will also be available, with some 22 tables set up on the walking track above the floor of the fieldhouse.
Mr. Ladouceur says he also plans to reach out to the business community of Drumheller regarding sponsorship opportunities to help support operating costs to hold the event.
Tickets went on sale through Eventbrite on Friday, October 27.
