Munson firefighter Dave Vanderkolk pours water on the fire after a barn and corrals south of Delia were destroyed by the blaze Tuesday afternoon. At 1 p.m. on February 17, firefighters were dispatched to a property approximately 10 kilometres south of Delia, and one kilometre east of Highway 851. When they arrived, the barn and corral system on the property of John Roach was completely engulfed by flames. Fire departments on scene included Delia, Drumheller, Michichi and Munson. Badlands EMS and the Drumheller RCMP also attended to the scene. Chris Teichroeb of the Neu Muehl Colony used a loader to abate the spread of flames. At one point, there were concerns about two diesel fuel tanks on the property adjacent to the blaze, however, firefighters were able to control the flames. There were no reported injuries or loss of livestock. The family is thankful for the timely response of emergency services. The cause of the fire, or any estimated value of damages was not known as of press time.

 

Flames reached high as an East Coulee trailer home was gutted by fire Tuesday afternoon. The Drumheller Fire Department and the East Coulee Hall, as well as Badlands EMS and Drumheller RCMP, were on scene shortly after 1:30 p.m. as the home at 6th Street in East Coulee spouted smoke across the small community.  As fire crews subdued the flames, bystanders said they had seen the resident leave Tuesday morning, and had only observed one of three pets leave the home. Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
