Inmate receives 12 months for possession of drugs

    An inmate at the Drumheller Institution has been sentenced to 12 more months in prison after corrections officers found hash following a search.
    Robert McMillan appeared in provincial court in Drumheller on Friday, October 22. He pleaded guilty to simple possession of cannabis resin.
    The court heard how on August 25 McMillan was a serving inmate at the Drumheller Institution. When corrections officers were searching his cell, and person, they found in his underwear a 35-millimetre film canister containing cannabis resin.
    The canister and its contents weighed 28.6 grams.
    McMillan admitted to the offense and Judge McIlhargey sentenced him to 12 months consecutive to any sentence he is currently serving.

Convicted sex offender faces new charges

    A Three Hills man is facing charges of sexual assault.
    A complaint from a 16-year-old female was made to the Three Hills RCMP on Wednesday, October 20.
    The complaint stems from an alleged incident near the beginning of September where the accused was visiting the victim’s home in Carbon.
    Police have charged 32-year-old Curtis Long with sexual assault.
    Long has been arrested, and is being held in custody pending a court appearance on Wednesday, November 3, where he is scheduled to appear on other matters.
    According to a release, police are still investigating this incident and are trying to determine if there are other possible victims, and if so, they are asking them to come forward.
