Pioneer Trail turns 50

DSC 0026

The Pioneer Trail Senior Centre has, for five decades, been a place for senior members of the community to gather for fun and camaraderie. Over the years, they have done much good for the community, supporting each other and have made literally miles of quilts for different causes. On Thursday, August 3, Pioneer Trail Centre celebrated its 50th anniversary and invited its members and the community to make the occasion. At the celebration are the executive (l-r) Alvin Will, Maria Gammie, Barb Davidson, Lylia Fuller and Barry Fullerton.

After 22 years, it is still not entirely clear where the Lost Egg comes from or where to find it. Nonetheless, the disc golf tournament has grown from humble beginnings to a premier event on the calendar for disc golfers from all over. This year the ranks swelled to over 150 players from the beginner to the pros, to play the challenging Wayne Disc Golf Course. After a late start because of treacherous conditions caused by an overnight rainfall, the tournament went off without a hitch.

The Valley Cruisers of the Big Country Antique Auto Club are continuing their summer series of cruises. On Thursday, August 3, the club gathered at the plaza for a slice of pizza before heading through local campgrounds to the delight of visitors to the valley. The club has made this a summer tradition on Thursday nights, patronizing a local business and then parading for spectators. See their Facebook page for the remaining cruises this August.
