Drumheller and District Landfill has ceased recycling operations until further notice.
Extreme cleaning of all equipment and buildings will be implemented. Public interaction at the weighscale will be limited with no one on one public contact.
Landfill operations will remain at status quo, however individual public interactions will be limited. This is a fluid situation and will change as we deal with this emergency situation.
Tonight Town of Drumheller Mayor Heather Colberg will be providing an economic update via virtual meeting.
The event, which will be broadcast via a Microsoft Team Live event will go at 6:30 p.m., March 18.
“It will be an economic update, where we are going to give businesses links to resources and suggestions on how to discuss things with the banks and insurance companies,” said Colberg.
She acknowledges many businesses are struggling and will continue to do so, however, there will be ideas discussed on how to maintain during this crisis and also how to prepare for recovery when the threat of COVID-19 subsides.
“There will be ideas about what businesses can do now so when this stops, they can be ready,” said Colberg.
They have invited local businesses and community organizations to attend as well as surrounding communities. While their target audience is local business, anyone can view it. For those who cannot participate this evening, they are planning to make it available through other media.

The Salvation Army has closed its thrift store doors due to the concerns of COVID-19, however, the food bank will remain open.
Family Services Coordinator Amanda Courtenay tells the Mail, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way the Salvation Army will be carrying on its business. It also closed Sally’s Café for the time being. While the thrift store is closed, they will still be accepting donations.
“The only thing we are running right now is the food bank,” said Courtenay.
She adds, they are changing their appointment times, so it is important to call ahead.
The Salvation Army will continue to accept donations for the food bank at the door, which is already in need.
“But we may have an increase in demand especially as the virus hits here,” said Courtenay.
