The Valley continues to be viewed as a place of motion picture production.

Last week, the hamlet of Dorothy saw the bright lights and camera shine down on it again as British-produced television series Tin Star was shooting.
According to Internet Movie Database (IMDB), Tin Star is a crime drama set in a mountain town.
In a press release from Sky Atlantic, Tin Star, “is the story of Jim Worth (Tim Roth) an expat British police officer starting a new life with his family as a police chief in Little Big Bear, an idyllic town near the Rocky Mountains. Not long after their arrival, the opening of an oil refinery nearby leads to Little Big Bear becoming a boomtown, bringing with it a wave of drugs, prostitution and organized crime.
When Jim takes a stand against the oil company fronted by Mrs. Bradshaw (Christina Hendricks), it is not long before someone makes an attempt on his life. But when Jim ducks the bullet meant for him, it leaves a member of his family dead instead.             With the gang of killers still in town, the police chief becomes hell-bent on violent revenge.”
Big names include Tim Roth, who appeared in Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs and Christina Hendricks who is most famous for her role as Joan Harris in Mad Men.
It also lists Christopher Heyerdahl, known for his work on Hell on Wheels and Linda Boyd who was in The Republic of Doyle.
The film began filming in the Calgary area in the spring, shooting 10 episodes, taking advantage of Alberta scenery and the new Calgary Film Centre. Other locations include High River, Bragg Creek and Waterton.
Tin Star is a Sky Original Production and is produced by Kudos Film and television.
It is slated to air in 2017.

Donation adds to Munson Fire Department fleet

The Munson Fire Department now has a new vehicle in its fleet, thanks to a donation from Specialized Desanders.
The department took delivery of a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 crew cab from the oilfield company, which has an office in Three Hills. It was a former Specialized Desanders fleet vehicle.
Munson Fire Chief, Steve Wannstrom, explains that while the company operates out of Three Hills, it operates and has employees in Starland County.
“We applied two years ago, and then they ended the program,” he said. “When the project started back up (Specialized Desanders employee) Dan Tremblay pushed for us to get one.”
He is grateful for the donation.
“Even with the economy, with oil and gas down, they are still willing to donate, which is awesome,” said Wannstrom.
Wannstrom explains the truck is versatile. “It can be of mixed use, we can use it for a command vehicle, plus in the spring it can be outfitted for brush fires and grass fires,” he said.
Before the truck is put into service, Wannstrom says they will be painting or wrapping the truck, and then installing equipment, which could include a tank and an ultra high-pressure system. The department has funds in its account it has raised that can be used to outfit the truck.
