RCMP assist in search for suspect

The Drumheller RCMP were on scene to assist with a break and enter investigation in the Bassano area on Tuesday morning, July 17.

Details are limited, however Corporal Gerald Sherk tells The Mail there was a pursuit of the suspects and a canine unit was called, as well as the HAWCS helicopter from Calgary.

The Drumheller RCMP officers were on scene to help contains the area during the investigation. They have since stood down.


Africa in the Valley raises over $21k

The culture of Africa was celebrated on Saturday at the Badlands Community Facility and it was all for a good cause. Arica in the Valley featured music, dancing, dinner and a fusion show.

The event was in benefit of two siblings in Zambia who are in need of sickle cell treatment. The cost of the procedure $30,000 US each.  

The event attracted about 300 people and raised over $21,000.

The Woeza Africa Music and Dance Theatre were a hit at the event and had attendees dancing in the aisles.

Those wishing to donate can go to the Chibilu Children Sickle Cell Fund GoFundMe page or donate to the Africa in the Valley Account at the local CIBC.

Greenhouse takes flight

838F8ABE C697 4386 BD8A 9CA412584735The Drumheller Fire Department responded to a unique call at about 3 p.m. today in Nacmine.

A localized wind storm swept a greenhouse off the ground and into a live overhead power wire.

Fire Chief Bruce Wade said Atco Electric was called, and once they were able to turn off the power to the line they freed the greenhouse.

There were no injuries and power has been restored.
