The Salvation Army and Westergard Ford’s annual toy drive kicked off this morning, November 22 at the dealership.
The annual drive features the Tree of Toys. Those wishing to support the Christmas Toy Drive, can go to Westergard Ford, pick a tag off the tree that lists items requestyed or a description of the child so the participant can buy gifts accordingly. When they fulfill the tag, they can bring the unwrapped gifts to the dealership.
While this great help to The Salvation Army, allowing them to plan ahead and fulfill the needs efficiently, they will also accept unwrapped gifts for those not immediately on the tags. The gifts will be picked up on December 12.
As part of the toy drive, Westergard Ford is planning its Family Fun Day, on Saturday, December 1. Santa will be there for parents to take pictures, face painting, and horse-drawn carriage rides.

Weight restrictions placed on Wayne bridge

Weight restriction have been imposed on a bridge leading to Wayne as the condition of the bridge has “deteriorated substantially over the last two years.”

Bridge 11 will have weight limits of three tonnes, a significant downgrade from the 16 to 24 tonnes the other bridges can handle.

Signage will be placed on the bridge and the school bus operator who uses that route will be informed to change their route, town CAO Darryl Drohomerski said in a press release.

““Bridges 9, 10 and 11 have been inspected this week as part of regular maintenance and specifically, after the Wayne flood earlier this year,” said Julia Fielding, communications officer of the Town of Drumheller. “The inspection indicated that the bridge has deteriorated substantially over the last two years.”

Bridge 11 is on the capital budget list for replacement, pending grant funding. The town has applied for a STIP (Strategic Transportation Infrastructure

Program) grant to repair the bridge the last two years and will do so again this year. The town will also be applying for Disaster Recovery Program funding for this project.

Inmate sentenced for possession of fentanyl, meth

court

A former inmate at the Drumheller Institution had four months tacked on to his sentence after pleading guilty to possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine in court on November 9.

Chauncy Lacasse was a serving inmate at the Drumheller Institution on June 8 of this year when corrections officers noticed him in his cell cutting a white powder. His cell was searched, revealing the drugs.

Defense for Lacasse, Hugh Somerville told the court the drugs were for his personal use.

Judge Pahl sentenced Laccase to four months for the possession of fentanyl and two months for the possession of methamphetamine. These sentenced are concurrent to each other but consecutive to the time he is already serving.
