Warrants have been issued for two suspected drug dealers after ALERT seized drugs, a firearm, and stolen property from a home in Three Hills.

Victor Foley, a 34-year-old man, and Jamie Ryan, a 36-year-old woman, are wanted by ALERT Red Deer’s organized crime and gang team for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking. Both suspects are from Three Hills, Alta., which is located southeast of Red Deer.

Foley and Ryan were the subject of an ALERT drug trafficking investigation that began earlier this year. On February 26, 2020, their Three Hills home was searched. One person was arrested at the time: Krista Rix, a 36-year-old woman from Cochrane, Alta.

After searching the home, with the help of the RCMP, investigators seized:

  • 30 grams of methamphetamine;
  • 25 milliliters of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB);
  • 1 gram of fentanyl;
  • several doses of suspected LSD;
  • three stolen vehicles;
  • various stolen property, including stolen identification; and
  • one rifle.

All three suspects face various charges related to drugs, firearms, and possession of stolen property.

Anyone with information on Foley or Ryan’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact police. Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is always anonymous.

M.P. Kurek appointed to Ethics Committee

DamienKurek 3362 HighRes

Member of Parliament Damien Kurek has been appointed to the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics.  The committee is also known by the acronym ETHI.
    “Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Government will face the ETHI committee that consists of mainly opposition MPs.  I cannot overstate how important the principles of good governance are in a free and democratic society,” Kurek stated regarding his committee assignment. “I, along with my Conservative colleagues, will use this parliamentary procedure to hold the Liberals to account.”
    The Prime Minister has committed numerous ethics violations and has broken the trust of Canadians by displaying a complete and utter disregard for our democratic institutions as seen over the last five years. The Liberal Government will have to answer for their failings.”
    As the MP for Battle River-Crowfoot, a constituency in rural Alberta, Mr. Kurek is looking forward to the opportunity to hold the Liberal Government to account and bring a common-sense perspective to the committee.
    Canada’s Conservatives will fight hard for the integrity of our governing bodies and will work tirelessly to restore trust in the Canadian democratic institutions.

The owner of Valley Plaza has a unique way to celebrate the Chinese New Year and bring prosperity to the community.
    Freeman Yam commissioned local artist Vicki Myers to create an ice sculpture of a rat at Valley Plaza. Outside Yavis Restaurant on the patio the large carving is on display, complete with lights to illuminate it at night. This is to celebrate the year of the rat.

“We tried to create some fun and say thanks to all the local people, and we worked together to make it happen,” he said.  “We really appreciate her (Myers’) participation making the ice sculpture.”
    He said they began working on the sculpture in December, working with 4 Elements Environment Control to build the frame and prepare the ice.
    Yam believes Drumheller would be a great place, with the dinosaur heritage, to have more ice statues throughout the winter. It could serve as an attraction.
    “If we could learn from other countries. Drumheller is the best location in the world, we could do the whole town in the wintertime, we could have ice sculptures and snow sculptures with the dinosaur theme,” he said.
    “We want to encourage the people and then if the whole downtown can do it with that theme and it can attract people to stay longer.”
    “It will bring the town prosperity, wealth, and health for everyone.”
