The Town of Drumheller is pleased to announce applicants for the new “Interior Building Improvement Grant” selected on May 28, 2020.
Businesses receiving the grant include – Diana Restaurant, RA Hamilton, Riverside Pharmacy, Sam’s Car & Truck Wash, Bold Efexx and Drumheller Registries.
The grant will fund up to 75% of the improvements up to a maximum of $2,500 dollars with the applicant responsible for the balance of the contribution. Eligible costs include interior painting, floor covering, electrical and plumbing fixtures as well as labour and materials.
“Town Council is always looking for ways to help local businesses make improvements to help increase traffic to their stores. This is an opportunity for businesses to freshen up their interiors and find their uniqueness without shouldering the complete cost of the improvements,” said Mayor Heather Colberg.
The grant also stipulates labour and materials must be sourced locally from companies holding a valid Drumheller business license. This will benefit local building supply stores, local contractors and tradespeople. Some exceptions will apply for materials that are unavailable in Drumheller.
In the April 27th Council meeting, Councillor Jay Garbutt commented, “I am pleased Administration was able to bring an excellent grant program forward during this time to help local business owners improve their interiors with no new spending asks or budget increases.”
Applicants were notified on June 1, 2020.

At their June 1st meeting Council approved the rescinding of the State of Local Emergency (SOLE) as of Monday, June 1 at 6:40 p.m.
The SOLE was initially declared at noon on March 20 and, on May 19 it was extended to August 1, 2020.
Mayor Colberg commented “We made the decision to implement and extend the SOLE with the best interests of our community in mind. The declaration was made to protect our Town. There have been no new cases of COVID-19 since May 1 however, if we have an increase of cases we have the ability to implement the SOLE as needed.
I want to thank our community for being diligent for over 80 days as we took every precaution in our power to protect our residents. We are aware that COVID-19 has not gone away and we ask you to continue following health guidelines and maintaining social distancing.”
“We will continue to monitor the situation, particularly as businesses and outdoor facilities re-open and we experience a steady influx of visitors,” explained Greg Peters Director of Emergency Management. “We are still following the relaunch strategy of the province with stage two due to begin on June 15th.”
A State of Local Emergency gives the Town access to additional resources, and special powers under the Emergency Management Act including personnel, from other orders of government, if required.
