ATCO supports Community Facility

ATCO Electric announced a $25,000 donation to the capital fundraising campaign for the new Badlands Community Facility, a multi-use centre featuring the library, cultural centre, community hall and eventually an arena and curling rink.
The presentation was made at an appreciation breakfast held by ATCO on Friday morning with members of the Town of Drumheller staff, council and design, fundraising and steering committee members.
“At ATCO Electric, our business goes beyond the safe, reliable delivery of electricity,” says Bobbi Lambright, president, Operations Division, ATCO Electric. “We are pleased to support projects that enrich the quality of life of our service communities and enhance the health and wellness of local residents.”
“We appreciate the support of ATCO Electric for our new Community Facility,” says Jeff Hall, fundraising co-chair of the Badlands Community Facility. “This is a much needed facility for Drumheller and the local community. It will serve recreational, health and wellness and community needs for many generations to come. We are grateful to have corporate partners, like ATCO Electric, that are committed to making a difference to the communities they serve.”
Construction levels have increased as the facility nears completion. Siding and exterior work is being done to the building, the parking lot and roadways are being paved and the cenotaph will be in place in front of the building in time for Remembrance Day celebrations on November 11. The facility is set to open for public use in the new year.

Third annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast coming

It went so well last year, The Canadian Badlands Passion Play is doing it again, inviting the mayor to breakfast at Dinosaur Trail Golf & Country Club on Wednesday, November 2 from 7:30-9:30 a.m.
While sitting down to a gourmet breakfast, you will be inspired by Guest Speaker Rev. Bill Nixon, and special music, provided by Talitha Peacock, a harpist and speaker both coming from the Mustard Seed this year.
Bill Nixon has a reputation for being a great communicator. He has the remarkable ability to connect with people – all kinds of people – in his ministry as a Bible teacher and lecturer. Bill has been Vice Chair of the Board and guest professor for Full Gospel Bible Institute; opportunities that have exposed him to a number of different approaches to missions work, something that is very close to his heart.
At The SEED, Bill worked as one of four Directors. In this role, he oversaw many vital areas of the ministry, such as Street Level Services, Housing, Chaplaincy, Occupational Therapy, Facility, and the Health and Wellness Centre. Bill now works in Church Engagement collaborating on new projects, doing public speaking, and helping to build relationships with the church and community.
The event is always an ideal opportunity to come together with other members of the community to enjoy some food and fellowship and show support for the Mayor and community.
Tickets are available for purchase at the following locations: Passion Play office, The Brick and Drumheller Centre of Natural Healing.

Christmas Miracle ticking down to completion

The Morgan Jayne Project is just a few families away from meeting its goal of filling its annual Christmas list, and hopes to finish up this week.
One of the project’s annual appeals is the Christmas Miracle, and this year there were 55 families with 146 kids that are hoping to receive a Christmas gift  thanks to the project. As of Monday, there were six families with 21 kids still in need of Christmas gifts.
“What a town,” said Fred Makowecki of the Morgan Jayne Project. “If the entire world had the same headspace as this town, the world would be a better place.”
On Saturday, they hosted Wrapapalooza, where a crew of about 20 set to work wrapping the dozens of presents to be sent to Roatan.
They are planning to send the gifts this week. Even if they meet their goal of filling the list, Makowecki said there are many more children waiting who can benefit from the program.
“We would love to send more,” he said.
The project also received some helping hands to ship the items, which is a costly affair. The staff at Hi-Way 9 Express and the company made a substantial donation to the project, as did students from Delia School and the James family. Canalta also came through with a great donation that will help ship the bulk of the items.
Makowecki said to fill the order, those who are interested can go to his Facebook or www.themorganjayneproject.com and select a family to sponsor from the list. If they are able to have the gifts delivered to Image Crafter by Wednesday, they will be able to send them on time.
