Levi Lindsay wins the Drumheller Mail boys bike

Five year-old Hunter congratulates his four year-old brother Levi on being selected winner of the boy’s bike in The Drumheller Mail’s annual Canada Day parade contest. New investigator for Drumheller RCMP

It’s both a change of pace and a change of scenery for the Drumheller detachment’s newest RCMP member.
Corporal Trent Sperlie moved from Saskatchewan to Drumheller, where the primary role for the 16-year RCMP veteran will be working with the Drumheller Penitentiary.
Sperlie said he and wife Candice, along with their dog Sasha, would like to plant some roots here for awhile.
“Drumheller seems like a really nice spot. We’re intrigued by the area, and the history of the coal mining part of it and how Drumheller kind of grew together from it.”
His Dad was out for a visit, and Sperlie said he had to drag his Dad away from their trip to the Atlas Coal Mine.
Corporal Sperlie is part of the local RCMP’s General Investigative Section (GIS), and will be doing a significant amount of work up at the penitentiary, as well as assisting local RCMP members.
GIS takes on bigger investigations and helps RCMP when needed in drug investigations, sexual assaults, and major assaults.
Sperlie is a native of Saskatchewan, and prior to the year and a bit he’s spent with GIS, was a member on the drug unit in Saskatoon for five years.
