Buyers show support for local family at Hussar 4-H Sale

Fundraiser Buyers Photo

The Hussar 4-H Club held its first live auction since 2019 and saw a strong turnout. The sale not only showed support for the club, but for a local family.
The Club held its 59th annual Show and Sale on Tuesday, May 31. They had 19 projects that were shown, adjudicated, and sold, as well as a charity calf.
The entire sale was a great success, with an average sale price of $3.74 per pound.
Another great success was its annual fundraiser calf. Each year they sell a calf to allocate to a different cause.
This year it was for the Casey Collet family. He is fighting cancer and had to seek alternative treatment outside the country at great expense. The charity calf was originally purchased by Brandt Agriculture for $5,068.80. The buyer then donated the calf back, so it could be auctioned again. This set off a cascade of events where the calf never left the ring and was sold a total of eight times.
Along with Brandt, Western GM of Drumheller, DST Oilfield, Michael Stefanishion, Desert Sales, Hale Ranch Beef and Earl Hale, Colby Bishop and Koole Livestock Hauling, and Bobby Hale and Ry Bar Oilfield Services all briefly owned the calf.
In total, the charity calf raised $28,166.40.

No Regrets

The students of Drumheller Valley Secondary School celebrated No Regrets Day on Thursday, June 2. The day consisted of a presentation by former Humbolt Bronco who survived the tragic crash in 2018, Ryan Straschnitzki, followed by an outdoor barbecue and games. Grade 10 student Aidyn Meeres may have had one regret, being the target of his classmate and ending up soaking wet.
