Crews are paving the area for the multi-purpose courts at Drumheller Valley Secondary School.
After paving is completed, Barb Travis, Friends of DVSS volunteer, says the next step is for Tomko to come in and drill the required holes for the nets and basketball court, then after that, lay down the surface of the courts over the asphault.
Travis said landscaping will also be done at the site as the project progresses, with the aim of completing the project in time for the start of the school year in September.
Fundraising for construction of the multi-purpose courts at the high school has been a community effort led by the Friends of DVSS, with support from a number of individuals, groups, and businesses.
Drumheller Emergency Services responded to a residential call shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Monday, on 2 Street East. A neighbour reported seeing smoke coming through a window.
When the fire department arrived and broke down the door, they learned the fire was isolated to a pot left on a stovetop which burned and began to smoke. The department removed the pot and ventilated the home. There were no injuries.
