Munson Community Centre nears completion…With a little help from their friends

    Munson Community Hall

Munson Community Centre is nearing completion and opening date should be in early June.
According to Munson Community Association Chair Person, Becky Kowalchuk, “We realized that this would happen, when we got our first donation.  Munson Community Association applied for funding, Provincially and Federally, and any other place that the project qualified for, given the criteria on the donor program.”
Kowalchuk explained, “We toured community centres in the surrounding areas, within a two hour radius, just to get ideas.  Some of the centres were older, but they worked.  We wanted to cover our basic needs. Once we received funding from the County of Starland, Village of Munson and all of our fundraising projects, we were able to break ground in August 2015.”
The Association’s main objective was to have a fully accessible facility.  The centre will have a full kitchen, staging area and enough space for 250 people.  Their goal was to make sure local contractors, materials and supplies were used for the construction of the centre.
“Opening date should be in early June, however the association will need to do more fundraising to complete the finishing touches.” said Kowalchuk.

Ram full of kindness

Ram full truck

On Wednesday, March 23, Drumheller Chrysler Service Advisor and food drive coordinator, Jackie McConnell, spoke with The Mail, about the food drive for The Salvation Army, “It all started when we saw the food drive ads for The Salvation Army food bank. There has been so many great events in the community, to help in situations like this, so we just wanted to do our part. We’ve got a lot a groceries, the turn out has been substantial, even more than we could have anticipated. So, we decided, why not fill a second truck as we still have a few days left to meet the new goal. Donations have been mainly groceries, but we will accept cash from people who just want to drop in.”
