Filling your child’s bucket one star at a time. That is what the Drumheller and area Early Childhood Development Coalition (DECDC) Early Years Fair on Thursday, October 15 will be all about.

The event, which will take place at the Badlands Community Facility from 2 to 7 p.m., is an opportunity for families with children from 0-5 years to learn about the services in Drumheller and area.

Shauna Watson, co-ordinator for the DECDC, said the fourth annual event will feature 21 exhibitors that parents can speak to and get information about what they offer.

“The event is about families coming together to celebrate the importance and all the wonderfulness of the early years for a child as they are learning and growing,” she said.

“We ask families to come and join us for information, tips, and activities to help their child get a head start in life. This event is a great way for families who have children 0-5 to meet and connect with the resources in the community,” she told inSide Drumheller, continuing by saying older siblings are welcome to attend with their family.

Watson said the fair will feature a play area set up in the middle of the room for children to participate in, “hands on, age appropriate fun activities.”

The event will feature a parent passport, Watson said, that allows parents to visit each exhibitor and get a star for their passport to fill their child’s bucket with information to help them grow.

Watson said last year’s event saw 52 families attend, eight of which were walk-ins. She explained that if those looking to attend have not had an opportunity to pre-register prior to the event, they are welcomed as walk-ins that day.

The Albertans against the NDP (Stand up for Alberta) have rallied once again, this time in Grande Prairie.

The rally, which took place on Saturday, October 3, was hosted by Savage Oilfield Rentals and included a mile long convoy of trucks and drivers.

John Satink, of Drumheller, was one of the many organizers who travelled to Grande Prairie on the weekend.

He said the rally went well. “The weather was kind of bad. The convoy was excellent. There were 32 trucks in the rally. We made a good voice. There were about 100 people at the rally because the weather wasn’t all that great, but people braved it and they came out,” he said.

The rally was very informative, said Satink, who mentioned that topics included climate change and environmental issues among others.

Satink mentioned that two more rallies will be taking place before the federal election on October 19.

“There is another rally coming up on the October 17 in Calgary. We are hoping to attract well over 1000 (people) there. On the same day, at the same time, there is a rally in Lloydminster. (They) are just before the election. We want to be really, really noisy so people in Eastern Canada hear us loud,” Satink explained. The rally in Calgary will be taking place at Calgary Olympic Plaza from 1-4 p.m.

In September the Albertans against the NDP (Stand up for Alberta) hosted two rallies, one in Edmonton on September 13 and the other in Strathmore on September 19.

Satink said the rally in Strathmore went well and had between 200 and 300 people attend and also included a convoy.

“We had a whole bunch of public speakers get up, I’d say over 15 who got up and spoke and we got a lot of valuable information out of that,” he said continuing by saying the Albertans against the NDP Facebook page has reached 23,000 likes.

Richardson Pioneer plans new crop inputs centre in Three Hills

Richardson International Limited is pleased to announce plans to develop a new crop inputs centre in Three Hills, Alberta to enhance its Richardson Pioneer network.

This new crop inputs facility will have high-speed fertilizer blending capabilities and a 10,000-square-foot, AWSA-certified warehouse to provide customers with leading crop inputs products and best-in-class service.

Construction will begin this fall and the new facility will be fully operational by next spring.

“The Three Hills/Trochu area has always been a great production area and we are excited to make a permanent investment there,” said Russ Reich, Senior Director for Richardson Pioneer, Zone 2.

“We look forward to enhancing our service, increasing efficiencies for our farm customers and being part of the local community.”

The Three Hills/Trochu area was identified as a gap within the Richardson Pioneer crop inputs network across Western Canada. With the new crop inputs centre in Three Hills, local farmers will now have access to a state-of-the-art crop inputs facility that offers industry-leading products and services, while still having the ability to contract grain and deliver to Richardson Pioneer grain handling facilities in Olds and Carseland, Alberta.

Richardson also recently completed a new fertilizer distribution centre in Carseland.

The 32,000-metric-tonne facility, which will be fully operational in October, has the ability to receive 85-car unit trains and will provide improved access to fertilizer products for Richardson Pioneer locations in southern Alberta, including the new crop inputs centre at Three Hills.

The Carseland facility is Richardson’s sixth fertilizer distribution warehouse in Western Canada.

“Over the last 15 years, Richardson has invested $225 million to grow our crop inputs business and we will continue to expand our investment in agriculture in Western Canada,” says Tom Hamilton, Vice-President, Richardson Pioneer.

“We are committed to enhancing our Richardson Pioneer network to meet the needs of our farm customers today and in the future.”
