There was some slick detective work at the St. Anthony’s Grade, 2,3 and 4 Christmas Concert as detectives Megan Engler and Liam Keller (right) answered all the questions they could about the Christmas Story for an appreciative audience, as students from each grade performed Christmas carols. Shepherds Sam Gross and Alainna Pollock brought gifts to Mary, played by Maria Agulto and Joseph played by Edwin Swain.
The community continues to show support for The Salvation Army’s Kettle Campaign leading up to Christmas. Saturday, December 16, was Walmart Canada’s annual Fill the Kettle Day, where the company will match donations put into the the Kettles at their store up to $100,000. A few community groups seized the opportunity to maximize their donation. The Rotary Club of Drumheller donated $2,500 to the Kettle. The Kinsmen Club of Drumheller also showed its support and donated $1,000. The Catholic Women’s League (CWL) hosted its annual Bring and Buy and was able to donate $6,000 to the Kettles. At the donations are (l-r) Major Robert Burrell of The Salvation Army, Linda Fisher of the Rotary Club, Amanda Courtenay of The Salvation Army, Kinsmen President Keith Hodgson, organizer of the CWL Bring and Buy Debbie Grande, CWL President Sharon Doyle, Rotary president Bev Krabsen, Gary Krabsen of the Rotary Club and Major Laura Burrell of The Salvation Army. Major Robert Burrell tells the Mail this is another example of the “generosity of this community”. The match day raised $11,812. 70.
The Dragons announced that 2006-born forward Jacob Goudreau has committed to play division one hockey at Lindenwood University.
Goudreau, who is a native of St. Albert, Alberta is currently in his second season with the Dragons and has posted 12 goals and 19 points in 33 games played. Jacob was awarded the Dragons “Hardest Working Player” Award last season and is known for his great work ethic and physical style of play.
He is trusted in all situations as he plays on both the Dragons top penalty killing unit and powerplay unit. As a young player, he plays an important leadership role in the locker room and is very well liked by his teammates. Goudreau will join Dragons teammate Adam Raesler at Lindenwood in the future, as the two Dragons have both announced their commitment there within the past few weeks.
You can watch the newly committed Jacob Goudreau this Thursday at the Memorial Arena as the Dragons take on the Canmore Eagles at the Draogns Alumni Game, wrapping up the 2023 calendar year.
