The Fever opens on Rosebud Studio Stage

unnamed

The Fever by Wallace Shawn, playing on the Rosebud Studio Stage from July 5 through August 31 is a thought-provoking drama featuring award-winning Rosebud favourite Heather Pattengale and directed by Lunchbox Theatre Artistic Director, Bronwyn Steinberg.
This one-woman tour-de-force tells the story of a well-travelled urban socialite who encounters the truth of her privilege in the face of the injustices of the world around her. From a run-down hotel room in a foreign country, a revelation emerges from feverish contrasting visions: rich and poor, comfort and torture pleasure and pain.
From the intimacy of Rosebud Theatre’s Studio Stage, The Fever is a serious piece that will challenge and spark important conversations for the drive home.
Pattengale and Steinberg come to The Fever after an incredible season being nominated for three Calgary Theatre Critic’s Awards, and three Betty Mitchell Awards between them. The Betty’s honoured Pattengale for her performance in Theatre Calgary’s production of Selma Burke, and Steinberg’s The Dark Lady won the Betty for Outstanding Production.
When asked why she agreed to take on this role, Pattengale says, “I couldn’t stop thinking about this show after I read the script for the first time. It challenged me, made me uncomfortable. It made me think. And that’s why I want to do it. Because these are things worth thinking about. We don’t have to agree with everything in this show, we don’t even have to agree with anything in this show. But I do believe we might benefit from taking a step back, looking at the things we take for granted, and really engaging the questions this show is asking.”
And Steinberg says, “Audiences here in Alberta can see a character who may be very much like themselves grappling with the painful truth of where they fit in the world, and I hope that the piece provokes meaningful conversations and leads to a sense of hope about how we can all move forward.”
The Fever plays Wednesdays through Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or by phone: www.rosebudtheatre.com/ l-800-267-7553.

Huntington water main break update

IMG 2128

At approximately 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 3, crews attended a water main repair in the Huntington neighbourhood. What would typically have been a repair to the valve has now resulted in a full replacement, which has exacerbated the circumstances in the area.
Currently, the Huntington booster station has been powered down, resulting in low to no water pressure in the area. A booster station is an essential piece of municipal infrastructure as it increases/maintains water pressure in surrounding neighbourhoods.
“We understand that this situation may be causing inconvenience to some residents, potentially leaving them without water for a limited time,” empathizes Bill Adams, Utilities Manager for the Town of Drumheller. “Our crews are working diligently to expedite this replacement to minimize any further disruptions to their service.”
Due to the nature of the replacement, 10 Avenue SE between 1 and 2 Street SE is currently closed. Residents should avoid the area until work is complete.
Once the water is turned back on, residents are encouraged to run their taps for several minutes to “flush” their lines to remove discolouration caused by sediment, which is often stirred up due to the work in the underground systems.
It is estimated that residents will have their water services return to normal by 8:00 pm this evening.

New Country 910 moves to FM dial

After 66 years as an AM station, New Country 910 will be switching to an FM frequency.
The Valley and surrounding areas have been served by the AM radio station since 1958, first as CJDV operated by Dinosaur Broadcasting, until 1981 when it became CKDQ, operated by CHUM.
It continued operation with various ownership and in 1985 it was able to get permission to boost its signal from 10,000 watts to 50,000 watts. It operated from 2000 to 2018 as a Newcap station known as Q91, and most recently was New Country 910 under Stingray Group.
It will continue as New Country 910 but now it will be found on the FM dial at 92.5.
“CKDQ on AM has served the Drumheller Valley since 1958 but it’s time to modernize our infrastructure. AM is notoriously difficult to maintain and is certainly limited in its ability to provide superior sound quality. We want to be sure we are airing the very best on-air quality to our listeners and FM more than accomplishes that goal, said Steve Parsons, Vice President of Programming, at Stingray Radio.
Reach will be considerably tightened and towers that used to be east of Strathmore will now be on top of the south Hill shared with Boom FM 99.5.
“New Country 92.5 listeners will notice a significant improvement in the quality of the signal broadcasting in full stereo and with crystal clarity. The one drawback is that our signal will be restricted to the area we are licensed to serve, The Drumheller Valley and surrounding communities,” said Parsons. “In its prime CKDQ AM could be heard into Central Saskatchewan, down to Montana and west to the mountains. Listeners in those broad areas will still be able to enjoy New Country 92.5 online.”
