Date set for youth charged with murder

A 16-year-old girl charged with first-degree murder in relation to the death of a man near Morrin had a date set for her preliminary hearing.

  The youth who cannot be identified as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act made a  brief appearance via closed-circuit television in provincial court in Drumheller on Friday, October 26. She is charged along with Munson area resident Dylan Howard in the death of Fazal Rehman, whose body was found with a burning vehicle near Morrin on October 16, 2017.

The youth was initially charged in June of last year of accessory, after the fact, of murder and attempting to obstruct justice. These were later upgraded to murder.

Lawyer Hugh Summerville acted as agent for the youth’s defense counsel Andrea Urquhart.  Her preliminary hearing in Youth Court was scheduled for May 28-31 in Drumheller.
