Scott Woods is on his way to the valley and he is fiddling up a storm.

The Knox United Church has invited the Canadian Fiddle Champion and his all-star band for a performance on Tuesday, June 5.

The evening is a night filled with music. It is an uplifting two hours of old-time fiddle music, country, western and gospel music along with beautiful vocal harmonies, humour, and a few tricks.

“The folks have been asking if I am still doing my trick fiddling, and yes, I still am,” said Wood. “I can fiddle behind my back, under my legs, I walk on a barrel and do a front-running flip, so I will be doing that as long as there is room in the church!”

While his style of music is not typical radio fodder, it still brings in crowds across Canada and he often tours in Germany. He says often his audience is discovering the music for the first time.

“Our show was always catered to a senior audience, but they are getting older,” said Woods. “ But our shows have always been family friendly and we found in the past because we do so many fundraising concerts for churches or charities and service clubs, we get younger families come…Afterward when they say ‘we didn’t think we would like this, but it was really good.’ That is the best compliment I could get, to win over a young family that thinks that old country and fiddle music, western swing and gospel is kind of passé.”

Along with Scott, he brings his sister Kendra, who is a multi-instrumentalist and no stranger to the fiddle. In fact, the pair has won the Canadian Duet Fiddle Championships three times. A sure crowd pleaser is 13- year-old step dancer Leo Stock.

“We have this young guy who loves country music, he is a great entertainer, he step dances and plays his fiddle and sings. There is an attraction to the younger crowd, they just have to be exposed to it,”  said Wood.

The  show is Tuesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at the Knox United Church, Tickets are available by calling Pat McDougald at 403-321-0210 or Knox United Church at 403-823-2366. Tickets can be ordered over the phone by Visa or Mastercard by calling 1-855-726-8896.
