Morrin School will have a new look and, more importantly, be better protected for students moving into the future.
Jack Hayden, MLA for Drumheller Stettler was at Morrin School on Thursday morning, March 1, to announce the school would be receiving repairs to the school’s exterior stucco walls. The project will cost about $280,000 and will better protect the facility. On the same day he announced upgrades to Veteran School, also in Prairie Land Regional Division (PLRD). This project includes upgrades to its electrical system, the building’s exterior and doors, enhance barrier free access and increase effiefficiency.
The upgrades to Veteran School are in the area of $500,000.
“This project is good news for these communities and excellent news for our students and staff. This investment will help enhance these learning and working environments so students and staff continue to do the best work they can,” said Hayden. “This investment also helps create jobs and benefits other businesses in our communities.”
Director of facilities for PLRD Kent Spath says recently the school replaced its windows, and the exterior stucco project is needed to protect the building from the elements.
Hayden adds, it is also to protect the great facilities for students contained therein. Recently Morrin School added its foods lab, and a new work out room. It is installing a new sound system in the gymnasium.
“I am really happy to see a new exterior for your school,” Hayden said to students gathered at the event. “The school will look a lot more modern, and you have a lot of new stuff to protect inside… you have a lot of reasons to be proud of your school, and I know your school is proud of you.”
Spath said they are installing a Hardie–brand siding application and have contracted Siderman Ltd. out of Red Deer to do the work. They are planning to begin the project April 1.
PLRD Trustee Angie Warwick thanked Hayden for the support to the school division.
“It is really exciting,” she said, and then quoted former Premier Ed Stelmach. “Our students are the future leaders of our province and deserve positive learning environments.”
