Who are you? Claire Milligan

Age: 33 by the end of this month.

Employer: H&H Optical.

Occupation: Registered hearing aid practitioner.

What do you like most about your job? People generally don’t grow up wanting to be a hearing aid specialist, but this is such a rewarding job. I get people thanking me for what I did. I love making a difference in people’s lives.

Where are you from originally? I grew up here in Drumheller.

What do you like most about the Valley? I really like how the community is so banded together. When there’s a task to be done or money needs to be raised, they get on it.

Any top travel destinations? I definitely want to go to where my ancestors are from in Western Europe, so Scotland, Ireland, and England. I’d like to know what it’s about and get some nice pictures of some castles.

If you could travel through time, when and where would you go? Back to the ‘40’s. I really like that era with the fashions, vehicles, and the old fashioned ideals.

What is your most memorable childhood toy? Easy! In 1985 I opened my Christmas present and it was a Cabbage Patch doll, her name was Maggie. I still have her, she has a spot in the closet.

What is one thing you could eat for the rest of your life? There’s this cream cheese dip with salsa, fresh vegetables, and shredded cheese. You just scrape it up with crackers.

Favourite movies/tv shows? I’ve been watching Quantum Leap on Netflix like crazy. For movies, The Princess Bride and Legend. If I had to choose something more recent, Forrest Gump.

Favourite songs? I like club music, something that always has a happy beat to it. I like the new song Someone I Used to Know.

Do you collect anything? Board games and some really old and obscure ones too, like Worst Case Scenario Survival Game.

Any words of wisdom? You must put yourself in alignment with what it is you want.

Who are you? Tim Chatten

Age: 29

Occupation: Swab supervisor for Carnwood Wireline Ltd. We basically pull fluid out of oil wells to help them flow better.

How long have you lived in Drumheller? Almost a year now.

Where are you originally from? I’ve lived a few places in my life. I’m originally from Victoria, British Columbia but I’ve also spent some time living in Grande Prairie and Red Deer.

What do you like most about the valley? Hands down, the scenery. We are surrounded by all the beautiful hills.

Is there anything you don’t like about Drumheller? No, I’ve never had any issues here. The only thing I couldn’t believe this summer was how many mosquitoes there are. However, that’s due to all the moisture we’ve had.

What are some of your hobbies? Dirt biking, golf, baseball, and I’m always building something at home. Call it amateur carpentry if you will. Motocross seems to win out of my hobbies though, I actually bought my bike the same day I bought my house here.

What technology could you not live without? The internet. I use email so much that I don’t even know how to mail anything. Last time I went into the post office, I had to get help from the staff to send something.

If someone were to make a movie about your life, who would play the starring role? I would have to choose Matt Damon. For one, he’s awesome. Secondly, he’s always making fun of himself because he’s Maaatt Daaamon.

If you could travel through time, what year would be your destination? I would go back to when I was 14. I would make myself work a little harder in school.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you be? Northern California. I’m not afraid of earthquakes, you can ride all year round, and my wife likes the vino.

Any words of wisdom? Full throttle, solves the problem or ends the suspense.

Who are you? Megan Fandry

Age: 19

Employment: A Summer Fun Program leader

What do you like most about your job? I love being around the kids, having fun with them and seeing them smile. This is my second summer working with the program and I must say I really love my job.

How long have you lived in Drumheller? I actually grew up on a farm located near Hussar, so I’ve been living in the area all my life.

What do you like most about the valley? I really like that the community is fairly close knit. It seems like everybody knows everybody and I like that.

What are some of your hobbies outside of work? I love snowboarding and horseback riding. I began both at the beginning of junior high and haven’t quit since.

What would be your dream vacation and why? I actually took my dream vacation in spring of this year. I travelled to Thailand for 2 1/2 months. While there, I lived with a local family and spent a month working and helping in an orphanage. For the remaining time I went on a backpacking trip. It was just so interesting to be totally immersed in a foreign culture and the people I met were amazing. It was absolutely a trip of a lifetime.

What food could you eat for the rest of your life? Anything that comes out of my mom’s garden. Homegrown food is always the best.

What is something you’re most afraid of? Caterpillars. They freak me out the way they crawl. I’m not afraid of spiders or snakes, just caterpillars. I’m sure it stems from some bad childhood memory but I can’t remember.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you like to be? Right here. I love being on the farm and close to my family. However, I think studying or working abroad for a year would be fantastic.

What would be your dream job? Ultimately I want to work with children. I have been looking into speech therapy programs, I think something in that field would be interesting.
