Who Are You? Peter Bjel

Age: 30, but I’ll be 31 in October.
Occupation: I’m teaching senior Social Studies and junior high Language Arts at DVSS.  
What do you like most about your job? Seeing students’ curiosity grow and learning from the students as well.
How long have you been in Drumheller? Two weeks.
Where are you from originally? Toronto.
What do you like most about Drumheller? All the conveniences are in walking distance, the small town atmosphere, the scenery, the air is cleaner, and the people are friendly.
Any travel destinations on your bucket list? Mexico. I thought it would be cool after learning about it from a Mexican exchange student I taught. Croatia and more of Western Canada.
Who would you like to hang out with for a day? Lester B. Pearson.
Any hobbies? Boating, swimming, hiking, canoeing, camping, jet skiing, scuba diving, cooking, journalism, and reading.
Favourite books: Mostly history and current events. I just finished Black Hawk Down, and I love 1984 and Animal Farm.
Favourite movies: Apocalypse Now, anything by Stanley Kubrick, David Fincher, or Alfred Hitchcock, I’m a big trekkie, and The Walking Dead.
What would be your theme song? “Sultans of Swing” by Dire Straits.
Any words of wisdom? Never stop asking questions and there’s always more to life than meets the eye, so stay curious.


Who Are You? Alyssa Yavis

Age: 19.
Occupation: Hair stylist, The Chop Shop.  
How long have you been in Drumheller? Born and raised.
What do you like most about Drumheller? I know a lot of people, because I’ve been here forever.
Is there anything you would change about Drumheller? I’d put in a dance club.
Any travel destinations on your bucket list? Bora Bora. I want to stay in a room next to the ocean and the only way you can get there is by boat.
When and where would you go in time? I’d just want to stay here.
Who would you like to hang out with for a day? My grandma, Nanna Jean.
Any hobbies? I’ve been figure skating for 15 years.
What’s one thing you could eat for the rest of your life? Shepherd’s pie.
Favourite movies? I just watched We Are the Millers and I’ve never laughed so hard.
What would be your theme song? “Barbie Girl” by Aqua.
What’s on your playlist? All the new stuff, mostly rock.
What would you do with $1 million? Get a nice house with room for a salon, so I can work from home, and help my dad retire.
What would be your dream vehicle? A Dodge truck.
What superpower would you want? Telepathy.
Any words of wisdom? Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Who Are You? Byron Nagazina

Age: 48.
Occupation: Director of Corporate Services, Town of Drumheller.  
What do you like most about your job? It’s challenging and I’m always learning something new.
Where are you from originally? Morden, Manitoba.
How long have you been in Drumheller? I came in May, but I used to live here from 1995 to 2000.
What do you like most about Drumheller? The quality of life. Here, you can put in a good day of work and be home in 10 minutes.
Any travel destinations on your bucket list? Germany and Italy. My daughter and I intend to go next year.
Where’s the coolest place you’ve been? I’ve seen the Motocross des Nations, basically the Olympics of Motocross.
Any hobbies? Motocross, golf, computers, and drumming.
What is one thing you could eat for the rest of your life? Perogies.
Favourite movies/TV shows: Game of Thrones, Bill Maher, and, Some Kind of Wonderful.
What’s on your playlist these days? Godsmack, Rush, John Mayer, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
What would be your theme song? “What If” by Godsmack.
Favourite books: Scar Tissue. I tend to read biographies, mostly of musicians or anyone who impresses me.
What superpower would you want? Telepathy.
Any words of wisdom? Be proud to be a Drumheller resident. The quality of life here is second to none.
