Who are you? Scott Ouellette

Age: 32.

Employers: Acklands-Grainger.

Occupation: Branch Manager.

Dream job? A professional golfer or hockey player. Maybe speaking about my experience with my heart transplant.

What happened? I had a massive heart attack when I was 28 and it killed the left side of my heart. I was on a machine that ran the left side of my heart for 113 days. I got the call, and they dropped a new heart in. It’s a gift that you never forget.

Where are you from originally? Calgary until I was 21, moved to Red Deer, back to Calgary, and then back to Red Deer again. My mother is from Drumheller and my uncle still lives here.

How long have you lived in the Valley? I haven’t officially moved, but I will be on May 25.

What are some of your top travel destinations? Last summer, my wife, parents, and I went to Sweden for the World Transplant Games. We also hit Amsterdam and Venice. I want to play some of the best golf courses in the world like St. Andrews, Pebble Beach, or TPC Sawgrass.

What three things would you bring to a deserted island (excluding family)? My iPhone, golf clubs and an unlimited supply of golf balls.

Any celebrities you’d like to hang out with? I’d like to play a round of golf with Erik Compton. He’s a professional golfer and he’s had two heart transplants.

Choose one thing to eat for the rest of your life? My mother’s potato salad.

What is your most memorable childhood toy? A Dukes of Hazard pedal car. My sister would sit on the trunk and I would drive to the end of the block and then back home.

Favourite movies/TV shows? Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dumb and Dumber. For TV, Modern Family and How I Met Your Mother. I’m a comedy person.

What would be your theme song? My Heart Will Go On, as cheesy as that sounds.

Favourite sports? Golf, hockey, and curling.

Any words of wisdom? Wake up every day and be happy you woke up.
