On Thursday, October 10, RCMP officers from Drumheller General Duty, Drumheller General Investigation Section (GIS), Strathmore GIS, along with partner agencies including Alberta Sheriff Highway Patrol officers and Peace Officers from Drumheller, Kneehill County, and Wheatland County participated in Operation Street Sweep in Drumheller and surrounding counties.
The operation involves a concerted effort to locate wanted persons on warrants, conduct court condition compliance checks on previously charged offenders, suppress crime and conduct increased traffic enforcement.
As a result of the operation, a total of 33 traffic tickets were issued, four traffic warnings were issued, a 72-hour driver’s licence suspension was issued related to alcohol, and contraband cigarettes were seized during a traffic stop.
In addition, a total of nine arrest warrants were executed on three wanted persons, and 10 compliance checks were done on persons bound by court conditions which resulted in five charges being laid.
The specific breakdown is as follows:
15 violation tickets were issued for exceeding the posted speed limit;
Seven violation tickets were issued for using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle;
Four violation tickets were issued for operating a motor vehicle with expired registration;
Two violation tickets were issued for operating a motor vehicle without valid insurance;
Two violation tickets were issued for failure to produce vehicle documentation;
One violation ticket was issued for operating a motor vehicle with improper license class;
One violation ticket was issued for failing to use seatbelt;
One violation ticket was issued for entering intersection on a yellow light;
Four warnings were issued for various traffic offences;
A 63-year-old resident of Drumheller was subject to a traffic stop and found to be under the influence of alcohol. A Provincial Roadside Sanction was issued resulting in a 72 hour driver’s licence suspension and vehicle seizure;
A 38-year-old female resident of Drumheller was arrested for one outstanding arrest warrant for:
Fail to Comply with Probation.
A 20-year-old male resident of Drumheller was arrested for two outstanding arrest warrants for:
Assault x 2;
Fail to comply with Probation x 3; and
Disobey court order x 3.
The 10 compliance checks resulted in:
Three breach charges were laid on a 43-year-old female resident of Drumheller;
Two breach charges were laid on a 45-year-old male resident of Drumheller; and
The 45-year-old male was also arrested on six outstanding provincial traffic warrants.
