The St. Anthony’s senior girls volleyball team topped of their season with a trip to zones last weekend in Bassano.

While their opponents outmatched them, their play earned them respect from their opponents and coach.
“The bottom line is they actually played the best volleyball they played all year,” said coach Heather Colberg. “That was a huge accomplishment. It was everything I could have hoped for. I was actually in tears, I was so happy with the way they played.”
The team had been playing above and beyond expectations all season. The previous week they won the consolation trophy at regionals to earn their spot at zones. To make it to the tournament itself was an accomplishment
“We were literally playing with a Grade 8, Grade 9, Grade 10 and three Grade 12 players, and we were going up against teams that were all Grade 11 and 12,” said Colberg. “They put everything together when they needed it. It was a great moment. As a coach, that is what you want.”
While they are a young squad, they are looking forward to improving even more next season.
“We’re going to fight to win zones next season,” said Colberg.
