Senior Dynos finish season fourth at zones

The DCHS senior girls Dynos finished their season at zones this weekend, landing just out of medal reach with a fourth place title.

“Our last match, we made mistakes. If we didn’t we would have won the bronze,” says head coach Ann Wade, “but that happens.”
But the team played well to make it that far, says Wade.
“It was a good tournament for them to finish off the year.”
Starting off Friday at the zones tournament in Strathcona Tweedsmuir, the girls faced Black Diamond and won the match 25-13 and 25-17. Moving onto Strathmore Holy Cross, the Dynos won their first set 25-20, but lost the second and third sets 26-24 and 15-08, losing the match.
Returning to the courts on Saturday, Drumheller beat Oyen 25-17 and 25-20 in two sets, followed by a loss to the hosting school Strathcona Tweedsmuir with matches 25-14 and 25-13.
Landing themselves in the quarter finals, the Dynos moved onto the semis after beating out Three Hills 27-25 and 25-22 in their match.
The semi-finals saw the girls losing to the host school 25-12 and 25-13, putting them in competition to grab the bronze medal.
Their final match against Notre Dame out of Airidie saw the Dynos lose their match 25-23 and 25-19, placing them fourth in the tournament, out of eight competing schools.
“They did much better this year having made it into the playoff match,” says Wade.
“The girls played very well and never gave up,” says parent Sherry Broom.
“They should all be very proud of their accomplishments and the friendships they have developed with one another during that time.”
Broom adds there were a lot of tears shed between the six Grade 12 girls who will be finishing their career after playing for six years under their coach Ann Wade.
“We’ve been together for a long time. I’ll miss them, but I’m not sure they’ll miss me,” laughs Wade.
The future is bright for the Dyno team of next year, with girls in the varsity team among the remaining senior Dynos at the school.
“I think they are a fairly strong bunch of girls and I hope they continue, although I won’t be a part of it,” says Wade.
