Esther Berstch went to be with her Lord and Savior, on March 9, 2012 at the age of 93. Esther was born in Greenway, North Dakota on September 28, 1918. She was one of 19 children born to Christian and Christina Bertsch. The family moved from North Dakota to a farm near Carbon in 1929, where they attended Humbolt School and the Zion Baptist Church. Esther, Otto, Irene and their mother moved into Drumheller in 1947. There, Esther worked cleaning homes and later worked in the Drumheller Nursing Home. She spent many wonderful years in Drumheller having coffee at the Saan Store and eating at Diana Lunch. Esther was a member of the First Baptist Church in Drumheller for many years. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school and worked in the various ministries of the church. In May of 2005, Esther moved to Red Deer to be close to her only remaining sister, Tillie, and they had wonderful years together. In 2009, Esther moved into the Pines Lodge where she was so well cared for and was cherished by the loving staff. She will be greatly missed by her sister, Tillie and numerous nephews and nieces. A Memorial Service will be held on March 22, 2012 at the Living Stones Church, 2020 – 40th Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Esther’s memory can be made directly to the Gideons International in Canada, 501 Imperial Road North, Guelph, Ontario N1H 7A2.
