RCMP lay further charges in Morrin homicide case; 16-year-old charged

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit have arrested and charged a youth in the ongoing investigation of a murder south of Morrin last fall, RCMP announced Wednesday.

A 16-year-old female has been charged and arrested in relation to the October 16, 2017 murder of Fazal Rehman, south of Morrin.

On June 5 she was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact of murder and attempted obstruction of justice. The female, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared in provincial court in Calgary on Wednesday, June 6.

In the fall of 2017 investigators arrested and charged Dylan Howard, 20, in relation to the murder of Fazal Rehman, 36, whose body was found at the scene of a burning vehicle in a rural area south of Morrin on October 16.

Howard awaits a preliminary hearing on January 18 to February 1, 2019 to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.

Apparent gas leak at BCF

Drumheller Emergency Services responded to the Badlands Community Facility on Wednesday morning in response to reports of a natural gas leak on the south west area of the building. There are no suspected injuries reported. Town officials confirmed late Wednesday morning that the gas leak has been fixed. The leak occurred on a valve on the exterior of the building. 

Tour of Hope rides through Drumheller today

The Kids With Cancer Society long-distance cycling fundraiser Ride for Hope had cyclists passed through Drumheller today. The fundraiser has totaled $225,000 so far and all of the money raised goes directly to the families of children who are afflicted with cancer. Riders started in Brooks on Monday and after biking Drumheller's trails today participants will head to Airdrie tomorrow before ending their tour in Edmonton.
