The Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce along with Community Futures Big Country and the Town of Drumheller have announced $35,000 has been committed to ten local businesses through the Building Enhancement Grant Program.
The Building Enhancement Grant is funded through a partnership between the Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce, Community Futures Big Country and the Town of Drumheller. This new grant for local businesses replaces the Storefront Improvement Grant and the Interior Building Improvement Grant previously offered by the Town of Drumheller.
This grant will support local businesses to enhance their buildings by modernizing and improving appearances. During these difficult times, the grant will help business owners reduce the financial burden associated with making exterior or interior improvements to their buildings.
The total value of the approved projects is estimated at $92,000, which will be a significant boost to the local economy. A stipulation of the grant program is labour and materials be sourced locally from companies holding a valid Town of Drumheller business license.

Shawn Pallesen of Tyrannosaurus Rest stated, “Receiving the Building Enhancement Grant is such great news for a business just starting up! It allows me to move my plans forward more quickly than I had anticipated and I am grateful for the support received from the Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Drumheller, and Community Futures Big Country. Bolstering the local business economy benefits everyone, but I’m particularly grateful to receive the grant, which brings me one step closer to what I envision for my B&B. The funding will help return the house to its original, century-old design,

something I am very excited about!”
“On behalf of the three funding partners, I am pleased we are able to financially support 10 of 14 applicants to the grant program. It is great to have this investment in our business community, in light of the challenges we continue to face through the pandemic,” said Heather Bitz, Executive Director of the Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce.
Recipients include Asteroid, Greentree Dental, Heartwood Inn, Homestead Antique Museum, Jungling Works, Oliphant Group Inc, Precision Beauty Creations, Tyrannosaurus Rest, VI Nail, and Water Pure and Simple.

Million dollar win for Three Hills man

Bruck Timothy

A Three Hills man has become an overnight millionaire after purchasing a scratch-and-win ticket.
Les Bruck is celebrating a big win on his BIG 10 ticket! The Three Hills local recently won $1 million on his ZING ticket.
“I bought my ticket early in the day, but didn’t scratch it until almost midnight,” he said. “I sat at my desk staring at the ticket for a little while and then I texted my wife: ‘How would you like to wake up a millionaire?’”
The winner said he plans to invest most of his windfall, but says he has at least one fun purchase in the near future.
“My wife and I would like to buy a motorhome and travel across Canada,” he said. “We’ve never been east of Alberta. When it’s safe to travel again, that’s something we would like to do.”
Bruck purchased a $10 ZING ticket at the Circle K located at 702 2 Street North in Three Hills on April 23. He won his prize by scratching the “Lucky Numbers” printed on his ticket, and matching a number – 9 – in the “Your Numbers” play area. His million-dollar win is the game’s top prize.
