Rhett Duggan selected to play in prestigious Senior Bowl

    A Drumheller Titan has taken his talent to the next level, being selected for the 2015 Senior Bowl.
  DVSS student Rhett Duggan was a standout in his senior year as a Titan. He, along with two other Titans were invited to the South Team Senior Bowl tryouts. This camp invites the top high school football talent from across Southern Alberta.  From this camp, an all-star team to play the North come May 18.
    Duggan attended the two day camp at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, and was one of 40  selected for the team. He plays linebacker.
    “I am ecstatic about the whole thing,” he told The Mail. “I am going to be playing the best in high school in Alberta, and I am excited and fortunate to get this opportunity. It has been my dream since I began playing.”
    He has been playing organized football since he was in Grade 6; from peewee all the way up. On the off-season from the Titans, he also played for the Airdrie Raiders in the Calgary and Area Midget football Association.
     He is proud to be selected for the team and the opportunity to play. There was some tough competition.
    “It was pretty good.  There was a lot of people, but after the second day, I think everyone was nervous that they were not going to make it, they didn’t show up,” he said.
    His football career could just be beginning. He is heading to the University of Alberta next season to be a Golden Bear, and was offered a scholarship.
This will be the 26th annual Senior Bowl and it will be at McMahon Stadium, Monday, May 18. The team will practice together, May 15. Over the history of the game, the series is tied at 12-12-1 between  North and South.
